FARIDKOT
Red Cross Society: The district Red Cross Society with the aid of the Central government will set up a physiotherapy centre here. A grant of Rs 5.28 lakh has been received from the Centre for this purpose, according to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Gurinder Singh Grewal.

GURDASPUR
Inquiry: Dr Ajaib Singh Sandhu, Civil Surgeon, has been asked to hold an inquiry into the death of Ashwani Kumar at the clinic of Dr Suresh Sharma on October 27 due to the alleged negligence of doctors. The victim had been admitted to the clinic for pain in an elbow after he met with an accident.

HOSHIARPUR
Safai karamcharis: Ms Kusam Adia, Municipal Councillor, has said that the Director, Local Government, Punjab, has imposed a ban on the recruitments of safai karamcharis on temporary basis. She added that this clearly showed bankruptcy of the state government and asked it to withdraw these orders.

JALALABAD
Without telephone: The Sadar police station here has been without any telephone facility for the past three months. According to police sources, the Telecom Department refused to shift the telephone from the old building of the Sadar police station due to the non-payment of dues. The SSP, Ferozepore, had issued special instructions for depositing the outstanding telephone bill but the same was not done due to financial restrictions imposed by the state government.

KAPURTHALA
Ban orders: Ms Usha R. Sharma, District Magistrate, on Monday extended the prohibitory orders in the district till February 28. According to the orders the buses in the district will ply from 5 am to 8 pm, petrol pumps will open from 5 a.m to 10 p.m and liquor shop from 8 p.m to 11 p.m.

KHARAR
Celebrations: Mr Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister, Punjab, will visit Kurali on Tuesday to preside over the centenary celebrations of Khalsa Senior Secondary School.

PATIALA
Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the local Rotary Club (Greater) here: President — Mr Satya Paul Goel; Secretary — Ms Sudha Pathak; Joint Secretary — Mr Gurminder Walia; and Treasure — Mr Javarjang Singh.

Threatened: The Indian Ex-Services League, Punjab and Chandigarh, has threatened to gherao banks in the state if the disbursement of pension to retired defence personnel is not regulate in the banks. Mr Prabhjot Singh, Geneal Secretary of the association, said on Sunday that a survey revealed that ex-servicemen were being harassed at banks as these were delaying the payments on one pretext or the other.

PHILLAUR
International congress: Dr D.J.Singh, Deputy Director (Social Sciences), Punjab Police Academy here, has been invited to the international congress on arts and communications being held in Lisbon, Portugal, from July 11 to 18. It is being organised by International Centre, Cambridge , England and American Institute , USA.

SAMANA
NSS camp: A 10-day NSS camp was recently organised under the patronage of Principal SS Sodhi at Public College, Samana. Quiz contests and writing competitions were held on the occasion. Mr HS Sidhu, commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Patiala, was the chief guest.

TARN TARAN
Mela: A three-day mela to mark the death anniversary of Baba Tara Singh concluded on Sunday at Sarhali, 22 km from here. More than one lakh devotees attended the mela.

PANCHKULA
Post office:
The residents of Sector 15 and the surrounding areas are facing a lot of inconvenience after the sub-post office in their sector was shifted to Sector 4. While highlighting the problem the Citizens' Welfare Association (U.E) of Panchkula has urged the Post Master General, Haryana, to get work started on the building of post office in Sector 15.

Ban sought: The Beopar Mandal of Panchkula has urged the government to ban commercial activity in the industrial urban estate here. The vice-president of the Beopar Mandal, Mr Mukesh Malhotra, while citing a number of examples said the industrial sites were being used for non-industrial purposes.

Mansa Devi Board: The Chief Executive Officer of the Mata Mansa Devi Pooja Sthal Board said that no land had been allotted to Mata Mansa Devi Sewak Dal Dharamrath and Bhandara Committee for construction dharamshala and old age home. In a press release he said the Mansa Devi Board was planning to construct the dharamshala and the old age home and the process of acquiring the land for the same was in progress.

A colourful nagar kirtan procession was organised here on Monday on the eve of the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh. A large number of school children were among the participants.

AMBALA
Case registered: A case under Sections 498-A and 307 (attempt to murder) has been registered against Harjit Singh, Balwant Singh and his wife, Kiran, on a complaint lodged by Ms Shakuni Sharma of Maheshnagar area. She alleged that the suspects had poured kerosene on her daughter, Ms Kavita, and set her afire as they had been demanding more dowry.

BHIWANI
NSS camp: Mr B.D.Gupta, a Rajya Sabha MP, presided over the deliberations at an NSS camp held by students of Adarsh Mahila Mahavidyalaya here on Saturday. The students planted saplings and exhorted people to immunise their children against polio.

Video van: To provide information on the development work being done by the Haryana Government, the Public Relations Department has prepared video films which are being shown in rural areas through a specially designed video van. The van is equipped with a VCR , a screen and other necessary equipment. It was launched recently at Chandigarh by the Public Relations Minister, Mr Attar Singh Saini.

ROHTAK
Rise in atrocities: Crime against women, including incidents of rape, dowry death and molestation registered a growth from 9 per cent to 18 per cent in Haryana last year, according to official sources. Ms Saroj Kaur Saini, state President of the women wing of the Lok Dal, said the Bansi Lal government had come to power on the support of women voters but now the government had forgotten all pre-poll promises and adopted an ignorant attitude regarding atrocities towards women.

Crushed to death: Chhotu Ram of Pilana village in the district was crushed to death by a vehicle near Model Town here on Saturday. He was walking on the road when the vehicle hit him. A case has been registered.

SIRSA
Population boom: If the population of India goes on increasing at the present rate then it will cross 1.5 billion by the end of 2050. This was stated by Mr M.P Sharma, coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra here, at a workshop organised to bring health awareness in 50 villages of the district. He asked the people to follow family planning.

Suspended: The Deputy Commissioner, Kangra, has suspended Madan Rana, pradhan of Jangal gram panchayat, Jawali subdivision for allegedly committing irregularities in Jawahar rojgar yojna. The up-pradhan of the panchayat has been directed to take the charge.

UNA
Mishap: Rajani (17) and Sanjeev Kumar (28) were killed on Saturday near Chintpurrni when a tractor-trailer carrying 45 persons overturned near Dhalwari village. They were returning from Chintpurrni after visiting the holy shrine.
