5 jawans killed in Tripura
AGARTALA, July 10 (PTI) — Six persons, including five jawans of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), were killed today when All-Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) militants hurled grenades at a police vehicle at Takumbari in south Tripura district. While all five jawans were killed on the spot, the driver succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital, IG Police (Law and Order) Salim Ali said.

Dilip-PM meeting
NEW DELHI, July 10 (PTI) — Thespian Dilip Kumar, at the centre of a controversy following the Shiv Sena’s demand that he return the ‘Nishaan-e-Imitiaz’ to Pakistan in the wake of the Kargil conflict, is likely to meet Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee tomorrow. Mr Vajpayee spoke to Dilip Kumar over telephone this evening and expressed his inability to meet him during the day because of his heavy preoccupation and that the two could meet tomorrow, sources said.

TEHERAN, July 10 (AFP) — Iranian Higher Education Minister Mostafa Moin tendered his resignation today in protest at fierce clashes on the campus of Teheran University overnight which his ministry blamed on the police, the official IRNA news agency reported. "Since the numerous efforts launched since midnight on Friday to check the unrest have produced no result. I hereby submit my resignation," Mr Moin said in a letter to President Mohammad Khatami.

SILIGURI, July 10 (PTI) — Two persons were injured in a bomb explosion at the gates of Siliguri police station today while panic spread in the area following information that bombs had been planted by ultras under a rail bridge near New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station. A crude bomb exploded near the gates of Siliguri police station in the early hours when a rag-picker tried to open a container which he had collected, Inspector-General (North Bengal) K.K. Das told newsmen here.

ITANAGAR, July 10 (PTI) — The menacingly swelling rain-fed rivers continued to wreak havoc in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Assam and West Bengal today. Arunachal's district headquarters town of Tezu has remained cut off from the rest of the country for the past three days due to heavy flood and landslides. In Bihar, the flood situation worsened.
