Elected:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Punjab Government Pension Welfare Association Bathinda district: President — Mr Heer Lal Bansal; Vice-President — Mr N.L. GURDASPUR
Recovered:
The police has arrested Ramesh Kumar of Nanakpur under Pathankot subdivision and Rohit Kumar, alias Sonu of Dalhousie, and recovered Rs 63,500 in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 50,000 (approximately) from them. In another case, the police arrested Pushpinder Kumar Pincha of Pathankot and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 50,000 (approximately) from him, according to Mr Varinder Kumar, SSP. Cases under Sections 457/380, IPC has been registered against the accused.

LUDHIANA
Eye check-up camp:
The 27th free eye check-up camp was organised at Gurdwara Sant Baba Tahl Das, Salem Tabri, here on Sunday.The camp was inaugurated by Mr Apinder Singh Grewal, Mayor, Municipal Corporation, and was sponsored by Mr Madanlal Bagga, Municipal Councillor, Ward No 68. More than 250 patients were examined. Eye operations, free of cost, would be done later at Dr B.L. Kapur Memorial Hospital.

Rotary Club:
Capt T. S. Ahluwalia and Mr Ravinder Singh Rana have been installed as Presidents of local Rotary and Rotaract Clubs, respectively for 1999-2000.

Appeal: Members of the Ropar Thermal Plant unit of the General Category Welfare Federation has appealed to the management of the Punjab State Electricity Board and the thermal plant authorities to implement the Supreme Court's judgement, delivered in favour of general category employees. It has also demanded that the posts, on which reserve category candidates are in excess of their quota as compared to the cadre strength, should be given to general category.top

AMBALA
Inaugurated:
The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bansi Lal, inaugurated a newly-constructed 18 bays bus stand at the cantonment here on Monday built at a cost of Rs 3.61 crore. Earlier the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of canal based water supply scheme at Ghasitpur village near the cantonment to be constructed at a cost of Rs 15 crore. With the commissioning of this project the people of the cantonment would get 180 litre water per consumer per day against the present 110 litre per consumer per day.

SIRSA
Dharna:
A large number of farmers of Jiwan nagar village in this district and its adjoining areas staged a dharna at the power house of the village under chairmanship of Mr Sakhiram Bhatti, Member, Zila Parishad, on Sunday in protest against the inadequate power supply with low voltage. While addressing the farmers Mr Om Parkash Kaharwala, senior Congress leader, alleged that Mr Bansi Lal, Chief Minister, Haryana, was misguiding people of the state with false claims that power was being supplied round the clock in the state.

Wife assaulted: Mrs Kamla Devi (26) was seriously injured with a sharp-edged weapon by her husband at her house on Sunday. According to sources accused Shamsunder was allegedly under the influence of liquor when he attacked his wife. She was admitted to the Civil Hospital, here for treatment and was later referred to Medical College at Rohtak. The accused has absconded.

Burnt: Bahadur Singh, a farmer of Natar village, near here received serious burn injuries at his house on Sunday. According to sources he was preparing tea when his clothes caught fire. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital here with 75 per cent burn injuries. His condition was deteriorating.

Resentment: Resentment prevails among residents of many colonies of the city as they were not being supplied adequate drinking water for past several days. It has been alleged that this is due to the erratic power supply with low voltage. City residents and members of the Maharaj Aggarsain Colony Sudhar Samiti warned that in case supply of drinking water was not be improved in the city, they would be forced to launch an agitation.

Dead: Krishan Kumar Soni of Rohtak died when he was hit by a Haryana Roadways bus at Mandi Dabwali, 60 km from here on Sunday. A criminal case under Section 304-A of the IPC has been registered against of the bus driver on a complaint of Sardara Singh of Rohan village. The bus driver has absconded.

Money snatched: Unidentified scooterists reportedly snatched Rs 20,000 from two brothers near local Bal Bhavan here on Sunday. According to sources, Harnam Singh and Harichand belonging to Nanakpur village in the district were going on their scooter when a scooter collided with their vehicle and two unidentified persons snatched a bag from them containing Rs 20,000.

SONEPAT
2 killed:
Two persons, including the driver of an ambulance were killed on the spot when a Haryana Roadways bus of Chandigarh depot collided with an ambulance van near Mabra village about 40 km from here on Sunday, the police said on Monday. The victims have been identified as Sudesh driver of the ambulance van and Munna of Balia district in Uttar Pradesh. An occupant of the ambulance van also got minor injuries. The police has registered a case against the bus driver who managed to escape immediately after the accident.
