Wards demarcated for reserved
quotas SONEPAT, July 13 The Haryana Government has demarcated the municipal wards in this city for reservation of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and women candidates for election purposes. According to official sources, this step has been taken to enable the candidates of these categories to contest the forthcoming municipal elections in their respective wards. The entire city having a population of 1.95 lakh has been divided into 31 wards. Out of these, three wards 6, 27 and 28 have been reserved for Scheduled Castes candidates and two others 3 and 5 for Scheduled Castes women candidates. Similarly, two wards 12 and 25 have been reserved for the Scheduled Tribes candidates. Eight wards 2, 4, 7, 8, 23, 24, 26 and 31 have been reserved for general categories women candidates. The remaining 16 wards 1, 9,10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 29 and 30 have been reserved for the general category (men) candidates. Meanwhile, Mr Rajesh Sharma, a Congress leader and municipal councillor, today hailed the redemarcation of the municipal wards through a draw. But representatives of various opposition parties criticised the redemarcation and described it a politically motivated act. They also alleged that
the state government had failed to take into confidence
the political parties on this issue. They also announced
that they would move the court of law if the government
did not revoke its decision in this regard. |
Israna residents demand
for college fulfilled PANIPAT, July 13 Admissions to Art and Commerce classes has commenced in the newly opened Government College at Israna, 20 km from here, on Panipat Gohana State Highway. A yajna was performed in the college premises by the college staff and people of neighbouring villages. People were enthusiastic on the opening of the college as it was their long-standing demand. According to the Principal of the college, Mr S.K. Chopra, this is the first Government college in the rural areas of the district and it would encourage students from villages for higher education studies. Despite assurances at the time of elections Panipat city was awaiting the sanction of a government college. In 1994, the Deputy Commissioner of Panipat said that the land was acquired for the government college, but action appeared to have been taken in this behalf so far. Several local residents
pointed out that the government had opened government
colleges in Israna, Gharounda, Safidon and Samalkha
towns, but does not appear to be willing to open a
government college in Panipat city. The city has three
private colleges. Many a time students getting 70 per
cent to 80 per cent marks are not admitted by the college
authorities. |
