Haryana to double livestock
population HISAR, July 16 The Haryana Government is planning to double livestock population in the state in next five years. The new Director Animal Husbandry, Dr KS Dangi, said here that a comprehensive programme had been formulated for the purpose. Dr Dangi, (44), who is the youngest Director of Animal Husbandry and the first doctorate to head the department said, breed improvement, both qualitatively and quantitatively would be the priority in next five years. The director disclosed that the emryo transfer technology under field conditions had brought encouraging, results. He said, the Government of India, had appreciated the project and had provided full grant of Rs 34 crore for the purpose. He hoped that the programme would be completed in next five years. Dr Dangi hoped that in next few years, there would be a revolution in the livestock production in the state and claimed Haryana would be known as "another Denmark". Elaborating, he said, in the initial stages disease free zones in the state would be marked, so that the unique germplasm of "Murrah" the exclusive breed from Haryana, could be profitably marketed in the world. To a question on the massive breed drain from the state relating to the export of thousands of Murrah buffaloes out of state, who ultimately land in slaughter houses of the metropolis, Dr Dangi said, the government had already taken note of the situation. He revealed a project was being submitted to the Government of India, which was expected to be approved soon. This was besides the cash incentives already being provided to Murrah buffaloes owners. In next few years, he said, the major thrust area would be to provide provision for quality veterinary services including disease diagnostics, strengthening veterinary extension services, which may include privatisation as well, improving the feed and fodder production, besides human resource development. Dr K.S. Dangri, who took
over from Dr H.S. Dahiya, as the Director, is a known
animal breeder having done his Ph.D in the USA. |

Dissolution or face protest: Hooda CHANDIGARH, July 16 Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda said if the demand for the immediate dissolution of the Assembly was not accepted and if a government without popular mandate was imposed on the state, his party would take to the streets. Talking to newspersons here, he said his stand for the past one and half years had been to work for the dissolution of the Assembly so that the people could elect their representatives afresh. In reply to a question
about Mr Om Prakash Chautala's allegation that certain
Congress leaders had taken money to extend support to the
HVP, Mr Hooda reacted sharply and said Mr Chautala was
speaking from his own conduct and experience. "My
father never disowned me," he added curtly with an
obvious reference to the fact that Mr Devi Lal disowned
Mr Chautala when the latter was allegedly found involved
in bringing watches into India from abroad illegally. |

Replace Hooda, says Malik AMBALA, July 16 Mr Om Parkash Malik, former Organising Secretary, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, in a letter sent to Mrs Sonia Gandhi has demanded a change in the state Congress leadership. He sought the removal of Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda as he had brought ridicule to the party by supporting Mr Bansi Lal, Haryana Chief Minister. Mr Malik said the support to Mr Bansi Lal was a great blunder as Mr Bansi Lal had been opposing the Congress in Haryana for the last so many years. Senior leaders like Mr Bhajan Lal and Mr Birender Singh had opposed the move but Mr Hooda had misguided the Congress leadership as he had a soft corner for Mr Bansi Lal, alleged Mr Malik. Mr Malik said the
decision to grant support and subsequent withdrawal of
support had disappointed the party workers and would have
an adverse effect on the party's performance in the
coming Lok Sabha elections. |

If the permission was granted, Mr Malik said he would prosecute them under Section 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1998. Accusing Mr Bansi Lal of conducting affairs of the state like a "king" in utter violation of the oath of office he was administered, he alleged the Chief Minister created eight posts of Inspector-General of Police and promoted some junior IPS officers against these posts within 24 hours, before the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections. He said there was only
one post of IGP in composite Punjab until 1965. The small
state of Haryana now bears the burden of six
Directors-General of Police against the one post of DGP
sanctioned by the Centre. Similarly, there were six IGPs
in Haryana until last week. Their number had now gone up
