Manipur declared disturbed area
IMPHAL, June 9 (PTI) — Manipur was declared a disturbed area under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958, for six months with effect from June 1 for "unprecedented increase in the commission of crimes", a government notification said here today.
Mansarovar yatra
PITHORAGARH, June 9 (PTI) — The first batch of 31 pilgrims on the Kailash Mansarovar yatra today crossed over to Tibet from Lepu Lerh pass this morning. District Magistrate I.R. Yadav, quoting base camp information available at Dharchoola, told reporters here that all pilgrims, including 12 women, were hale and hearty. The pilgrims will return at the Kala Pani camp on June 21 after spending 12 days in Tibet and reach New Delhi on June 27.

Bodo groups
GUWAHATI, June 9 (UNI) — Rival Bodo militant groups, the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) and the Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT), have joined hands to put up a "joint fight for a sovereign Bodoland". According to a joint statement faxed to newspaper offices here by both organisations last night, NDFB chief Ranjan Daimary met BLT chairman Hagrama Basumatary recently to remove mistrust and misunderstanding between the two outfits.
Blind criminal
LUCKNOW, June 9 (UNI) — Notorious criminal Sehrab Khan, who despite being blind has been duping the "watchful" custodians of law and order for the past several years, has finally landed in police custody. The criminal, arrested by the Hasanpur police of Jyotiba Phule Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, possesses two passports with different addresses, two voters' identity cards and has been drawing handicapped pension from three districts while his wife is getting widow pension from two different places.
Indian diplomat shot
LUSAKA, June 9 (AFP) — An Indian diplomat based in the Zambian capital was shot dead by armed robbers outside a local school where he had gone to pick up his daughter, school officials and the police said today. According to Headmistress Margaret Mtambo, Natul Singh was killed late yesterday at the gate of Saint Mary Girls' School in the Woodlands suburb as he drove into the school premises.
