Farmers' meet : The State Bank of
Patiala, Sirhind city branch, on Monday organised
a farmers' meet at Dera Meer Miran village. Mr
Randhir Singh Cheema, former minister, Punjab,
presided over the function and distributed loans
to farmers. Mr Harish Chander, Branch Manager,
highlighted the performance of the branch in
providing financial assistance to the farmers
under various loan schemes of the bank. Farmers
were also apprised of new loan schemes being
launched by the bank.JALANDHAR
Prayer meeting: The Retired Railway
Employees Association, held a prayer meeting on
Sunday to pay homage to the brave soldiers who
died in the Kargil sector. The association, while
supporting the government in handling the
sensitive situation, has also sent Rs 2,500 to
the Army Headquarters as a gesture of help the
gallant soldiers.
KHANNA
Foiled: The Khanna police on Sunday
foiled an attempt by members of the Sant Samaj
and four Akali Dals opposed to Mr Parkash Singh
Badal, to celebrate Masya at Dhaki
Sahib Maqsoodran. They were stopped near Kaddoh
village by the police where some altercation also
took place between them and the police. The
supporters were led by Mr Karnail Singh Panjauli
President, Youth Wing, Akali Dal (Tohra
group), Mr Kuldip Singh Wadala, President, Akali
Dal (Democratic), Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode,
President, Akali Dal (Panthak), Mr Kedar Surjan
Singh Senior Vice President Akali Dal
(Tohra). Their motive was to hold a
deewan at Dhakki Sahib to express
solidarity with Sant Baba Darshan Singh and to
urge the Punjab Government to for his release.
PHAGWARA
Dowry case: On a complaint lodged by
Sunita, the police has registered a case under
Sections 498-A, 120-B, IPC against her husband
Rajesh Kumar, father-in-law Manoharlal ,
mother-in-law Premlata, sister-in-law Veena Rani
and brother-in-law Devraj. However, no arrest has
been made so far, the police said here on Sunday.
She had complained that her in-laws were
torturing her to bring more dowry.

Seminar: Mr Arpit Shukla, district
police chief, has said the Press should work for
the welfare of society by fighting social evils,
including the prevailing corruption. Mr Shukla
was speaking at a seminar on "Press-Public
and Administration" organised by the Dhuri
unit of the Punjab Union of Journalists at Dhuri,
15 km from here, on Sunday. A Punjabi monthly
magazine in Punjabi "Rajput Soach" and
a Punjabi fortnightly, "Golden
Patrika", were launched on the occasion.
