JALANDHAR
Church anniversary:
St Paul’s Church of North India Sansarpur celebrated its eighth anniversary on Sunday, June 20. The congregation under leadership of its secretary, Mr Wilson Franklin and Mr Newton K. Masih pledged to contribute liberally for the families of martyrs of Kargil. Special prayers for peace and prosperity of the country were made. Rev R. Phillips, Rev D. Masih and Rev P. Chand presided over the each session. The community lunch session was attended by Non-Christians as well including the sarpanch Master Gurdial Singh and some panches.

MALERKOTLA
Arrested:
The police has arrested Jarnail Singh owner of a fair price shop at Jitwal Kalan in Malerkotla Sub-Division while selling kerosene on the blackmarket. According to Mr Surinder Singh Saini, DSP Malerkotla, the police has also arrested Rajiv Kumar of Malerkotla who had purchased kerosene from Jarnail Singh on the blackmarket and recovered 220 litres of kerosene from his possession.

NAWANSHAHR
Anti-drugs day:
The district administration organised a seminar here on Saturday at Doaba Club to mark the International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. Presiding over it the ADC (Development), Mr Dalip Kumar, stressed the need to create awareness among the youth on the negative impact of drugs and called upon the NGOs to come forward for organising awareness-cum- deaddiction camps. Mr Surinder Singh Sodhi, SSP, Dr Surinder Kaur Kochhar, Civil Surgeon, Mr Gurinder Singh Toor, representative of Coordination Committee of NGOs also spoke.
Water shortage: Residents of the local Satgur Nagar are sore over erratic supply of piped water being supplied by the local Municipal Council.
School time: Mr Bhupinder Singh Warraich, president of the district unit of the Democratic Teachers Front in a press statement has urged state government that keeping in view hot summer the school timings should continue to be from 7 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. even after the summer vacation.

Old boys meet:
Capt A.D. Singh, convener of the Sainik School Kapurthala Old Boys Association has intimated to all members of the association to attend the meeting of association to be held on July 24 here. Those wishing to attend the meeting should contact Capt A.D. Singh Phone 0175-201177/225394 to confirm their participation.
Withdraw case: A number of Municipal Councillors and journalists of Nabha district, Editor Guild and the district BJP unit here in separate memorandums to the SSP have urged him to withdraw a case against Mr Sushil Jain. Mr Prem Kumar Gagan, ex-president MC Khanna along with serving Municipal Commissioners said the Nabha police had registered a false case against Mr Jain for instigating a crowd to attack a police station on May 27. He said Mr Jain was not present at the site of the incident.

Workshop ends: A play was presented by students of Bhavan Vidyalaya on the concluding day of the month-long workshop on ''good citizenship and human values'' organised on the school premises in Sector 15 here on Sunday. Thirtyfive students participated in the workshop.

KAITHAL
Land dispute:
Tension prevailed at Rahera Majra village falling under the Rajound Police Station, and additional police force was rushed from here on Saturday. Dispute between two groups of the villagers over a piece of 50 acres land is said to be the cause of tension. Fresh tension started when a group unloaded trucks of bricks on the disputed land and the other group resisted it.
Donation: Naveen Goel, a school student donated Rs 10,000 to the Chief Minister's War Heroes relief fund for the benefit of the Kargil martyrs. This amount was given by cheque to the Deputy Commissioner, Ms Jaiwanti Sheokand by his father, Mr Parmanand Goel here two days ago. Naveen had been collecting this money to purchase a Moped.
Power theft: The HVPN vigilance wing Haryana, registered a case of power theft against an SDE of Public Health Department at Kalayat and imposed a fine of Rs 2,87,533 on the basis of the power consumed. On the other hand according to Public Health Department sources, this case did not relate to any theft by any individual official but was related to a booster pump station installed by the department recently.
Anti-drugs day: The International Anti drugs and Narcotics day was celebrated by the district literacy society at Pundri on Saturday. The DPRO, Kaithal, Mr Rajbir Singh, addressing youths said that drug addiction had ruined the future of many promising youths. Another function was organised at Sikander Kheri village.

KURUKSHETRA
Students' march:
Students of Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Public School (Dhanora), Ladwa, 15 km from here, took out a march on Saturday in support of the jawans fighting in Kargil. They also presented a memorandum to the tehsildar here.

PANIPAT
Murder case:
The police here has claimed to have succeeded in solving the murder case of a salesman, Nand Kishore. The culprits were arrested after their motor cycle was found from the crime spot. One country-made pistol was recovered from them.

SONEPAT
Dowry death:
A case has been registered against Ram Niwas, his mother and his brother, Jai Bhagwan, all of Panchi Jatan village on the report of Balbir Singh who alleged that his daughter, Maiso, had died of the atrocities committed by her in-laws for not bringing sufficient dowry.

SIRSA
Attacked:
A farmer of Begu village in this district was injured seriously with sharp-edged weapons by a group of unidentified persons on Friday late at night. It has been alleged that accused were also responsible for the murder of two persons and incidents of looting in three dhanis a few days back. In this looting the accused had snatched golden ornaments and valuable domestic articles from these dhanis adjoining village Begu and has not been arrested so far. The police has announced an award of Rs 10,000 for information on these accused.
Association: The following have been elected office-bearers of the district Halwai Association: President — Mr Hari Singh; Vice-President — Mr Om Prakash Verma; General Secretary — Mr Ram Singh; Secretary — Mr Hari Ram; and Treasurer — Mr Nanak Chand.

KULU
RSS leader dead:
Ved Vyas (90), a veteran RSS leader, passed away here on Saturday after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.
Electrocuted:
Umesh Chand (20) of Pandeka Shardra village, Uttar Pradesh, was electrocuted on Saturday at Shamshi, 7 km from here, when he accidentally fell on an 11 kv power line.

NURPUR
Accident:
One woman died on the spot, and 14 tourists were injured when a private tourist bus DL 14 (2724) met with an accident when its driver failed to negotiate a curve near Sadwan on Friday evening. The bus was coming from Dalhousie on way to Delhi. The deceased has been identified as Suman Lata of Delhi. The injured after being given first aid at the local civil hospital were shifted to private nursing home at Pathankot. The local administration released a relief of Rs 3000 to each injured tourist.

SOLAN
Bus mishap:
One person died on the spot and 12 others were injured, two of them seriously, when a bus fell into a khud, 10 km from here, on the Kalka-Shimla national highway on Sunday.
