Cong will have to pay heavy
price CHANDIGARH, June 27 Mr Ram Bilas Sharma, Leader of the Haryana BJP Legislature Party, alleged here today that Chief Minister Bansi Lal had been hobnobbing with the Congress for the past one year. Mr Sharma told newsmen that the Bansi Lal-Congress nexus would have become public just three days after the Vajpayee Government fell on April 17 last. But the Congress at the last moment advised Mr Bansi Lal to wait for the right time to "stab Mr Vajpayee in the back." To substantiate his charge Mr Sharma said a former AICC President, Mr Sitaram Kesri, said in his Gohana rally that he would welcome Mr Bansi Lal in the Congress. Later when Mrs Sonia Gandhi visited Chandigarh in the first week of December, she also indicated that Mr Bansi Lal would sooner or later join the Congress. During the Delhi Assembly elections Mr Bansi Lal and his men campaigned both for Mrs Sushma Swaraj, who was the BJP candidate, and Mrs Kiran Chaudhary, who was the Congress candidate. Mr Sharma said Mr Bansi Lal had been making things difficult for the BJP for the last one year in the hope that the party would walk out of the alliance and he would be able to join the Congress. Admitting that the BJP had certain reservations about Mr Bansi Lal, particularly in view of his role during the Emergency, when the party entered into a poll pact with him in 1996, Mr Sharma said the HVP leader had assured us that he was a changed person now. The BJP too had thought that it would be able to make him a true democrat. However, he regretted, Mr Bansi Lal proved the BJP wrong. Alleging that Mr Bansi Lal was a "sadist", Mr Sharma said the Chief Minister was in the habit of harming those persons who were closest to him. Mr Bansi Lal, he said, enjoyed insulting others. The BJP leader said
though it was for the party high command to take a
decision about poll alliances, it would be the endeavour
of the BJP to prevent a division of all those forces in
Haryana which were opposed to the "unholy
alliance" of the HVP and the Congress. The Congress
would have to pay a heavy price for bailing out Mr Bansi
Lal, he added. |
Fund sought to preserve
heritage KURUKSHETRA, June 27 Heritage of India should be maintained properly and a corpus fund created for this purpose. This was emphasised by Mr Narender Gulzari Nanda, a younger son of Mr Gulzari Lal Nanda, former officiating Prime Minister of India and Mr P.C. Chib, President Nanda Foundation, at a joint press conference held here today. They said that it could only be possible, if the corruption which had crept in the religious places inadvertently, should be eradicated and if the corrupt religious places were unwilling to shun corruption, those should be exposed. Recalling one of the statements of late Mr Gulzari Lal Nanda, they said that respected Nanda ji, on one occasion, said that "corruption has to be fought and it will be for a longer fight than freedom struggle." Both of them, called upon the electronic as well as print media to come forward and contribute in fulfilling the dreams of Nanda Ji. They regretfully said that the values of life had been forgotten as everybody was rushing after the deceptive glittering western world. Being hopeful on
achieving the target they said that "it is not a
difficult job to eradicate corruption because 70 per cent
population of our country hailed from farming community,
which is not corrupt and the corruption prevailing among
90 per cent of this rest of the thirty per cent
population of our country, can be removed by the
religious places as almost everybody has a faith in one's
respective religion." They opined that the religion
should not inspire fear among the public, but confidence. |

He said political activity had picked up after the one-day special session and said his party was ready to contest elections at 14 days notice. He said the Congress, by extending support to the unpopular government of Bansi Lal, had proved his allegation that Mr Bansi Lal was the B team of the Congress. his party was also planning to contest in other states

I am not joining NCP: Bhajan HISAR, June 27(UNI) A former Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhajan Lal, today scoffed at reports that he was joining the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party and described these as "baseless. Mr Bhajan Lal, who had opposed the Congress bailing out the Bansi Lal-led Haryana Vikas Party government in Haryana after the withdrawal of BJP support said, he favoured dissolution of the state Assembly and the holding of the elections along with the coming mid-term Lok Sabha poll. The people of that state, wanted a Congress government, he added. Answering a question about the likely replacement of Mr Bansi Lal as Chief Minister, Mr Bhajan Lal said it was the prerogative of the Congress President, Ms Sonia Gandhi. Former Haryana Congress President, Mr Birender Singh, who too had his reservations on the Congress bailing out Mr Bansi Lal, today ruled out any possibility of the Congress and the HVP forming a coalition government. Mr Birender, who was here to address the district party workers told reporters that he favoured dissolution of the Assembly and holding of fresh elections in Haryana. He said the Congress was left with only one alternative and that was to support the Bansi Lal government. According to him issues like the Haryana Vikas Party's merger with the Congress, change of the Chief Minister or dissolution of the Assembly and calling mid-term poll would be deliberated upon by the party high command.
