2 minor girls kidnapped

Chandigarh, May 14 — Two minor girls have been allegedly kidnapped in separate incidents in the city. Two youths have been booked for their involvement in the crimes. Satish , alias, Kala, of Janata Colony, Sector 25, has allegedly kidnapped a girl of 16 years of age from his locality.

Babloo of Mauli Jagran , has been named kidnapper of another minor girl of the same locality. Separate cases under Sections 363 and 366 of the IPC have been registered.

A young girl by the name of Sunaina came to the house of the abducted girl and claimed that someone had come to meet her outside. From there, the minor girl was allegedly kidnapped.

Cop injured
A cop posted on naka duty near the roundabout of Sectors 19,27,20 and 30 was hit by an unidentified Esteem car last night.

Constable Pawan Kumar, was part of a party that cordoned off Sector 20 for search operation. He had signalled the white Esteem to stop, but the driver allegedly banged into him and sped away.

The injured cop was admitted to GMCH, Sector 32. A case under Sections 279 and 337 of the IPC has been registered against the driver.

Pedestrian hit
A pedestrian, Naresh Chander Gupta, of Sector 23 was injured when he was hit by a scooter ( CH--01--J--4103) driven by Naveen of Sector 22. While the injured was admitted to General Hospital, Sector 16, a case under Sections 279 and 337 was registered.

Nabbed for assault
Three persons have been nabbed for allegedly assaulting a resident of Sector 40 over a minor issue. Mr Krishan Vohra has alleged that he was beaten up by Navrattan Jain of Sector 40, Rajeev Kumar of Burail village and Balwinder Singh of Palsora Colony.

Mango prices fall

CHANDIGARH, May 14—While the prices of 'safeda' variety of mango and apricot have come down, grapes have become costlier during the past two days.

During a survey of the local market, it was found that 'safeda' variety of mango, the retail price of which had been stable at Rs 20 a kg during the past one week, was selling today for Rs 15 a kg in different city markets. The wholesale price of the fruit has also come down from Rs 200 to Rs 170 per pack of 16 kg during this period.

Similarly, the price of 'dasehri' variety of the fruit has come down from Rs 40 to Rs 30 a kg. On the other hand, the price of 'sandhuri' variety was stable at Rs 30 a kg. According to traders, the fall was due to enhanced supplies from Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.

The same was the case with apricot, as its price too had crashed during this period. A kg of the fruit, which was available for Rs 40 a kg two days back, could be purchased today by paying Rs 30. The wholesale price of the fruit was Rs 60 per four kg pack. The traders attributed the fall in the price to more arrivals of the fruit in the market from Solan and the surrounding areas of Himachal Pradesh.

Likewise, the price of cherry has dipped from Rs 120 to Rs 100 a kg during this period. The wholesale price of the fruit has come down from Rs 200 to Rs Rs 175 per pack of two kg. The price fall was attributed to brightening up of arrivals from Kotgarh in Himachal Pradesh. The price is likely to witness a further dip once the crop started arriving from Jammu and the surrounding areas after a fortnight.

As far as the prices of green almond and pomegranate were concerned, these also have come down during this period. A kg of green almond, priced at Rs 40 just two days back, was available today for Rs 30. The wholesale price of the fruit was around Rs 90 per five kg pack. Similarly, if a kg of pomegranate was priced at Rs 40 a kg just two days back, it was available today for Rs 30. The wholesale price of the fruit has come down from Rs 120 to Rs 90 per five kg.

Similarly, melon was also cheaper today as it was available between Rs 12 and Rs 15 a kg in different city markets. Earlier, the fruit had been selling for Rs 20 a kg. There was no change in the price of watermelon as it was still selling at Rs 8 a kg. The same was the case with peach, as it too was selling at the old price of between Rs 20 and Rs 25 a kg. A dozen bananas was priced at Rs 20 in different markets today.

On the other hand, the price of grapes have gone up during this period. A kg of grapes, available between Rs 30 and Rs 40 just two days back, was priced between Rs 50 and Rs 55 today. The wholesale price of the commodity has gone up from Rs 120 to Rs 150-190 per four kg pack.Back
