CHANDIGARH, May
14While the prices of 'safeda' variety of mango and
apricot have come down, grapes have become costlier
during the past two days.
During a survey of the
local market, it was found that 'safeda' variety of
mango, the retail price of which had been stable at Rs 20
a kg during the past one week, was selling today for Rs
15 a kg in different city markets. The wholesale price of
the fruit has also come down from Rs 200 to Rs 170 per
pack of 16 kg during this period.
Similarly, the price of
'dasehri' variety of the fruit has come down from Rs 40
to Rs 30 a kg. On the other hand, the price of 'sandhuri'
variety was stable at Rs 30 a kg. According to traders,
the fall was due to enhanced supplies from Maharashtra
and Uttar Pradesh.
The same was the case
with apricot, as its price too had crashed during this
period. A kg of the fruit, which was available for Rs 40
a kg two days back, could be purchased today by paying Rs
30. The wholesale price of the fruit was Rs 60 per four
kg pack. The traders attributed the fall in the price to
more arrivals of the fruit in the market from Solan and
the surrounding areas of Himachal Pradesh.
Likewise, the price of
cherry has dipped from Rs 120 to Rs 100 a kg during this
period. The wholesale price of the fruit has come down
from Rs 200 to Rs Rs 175 per pack of two kg. The price
fall was attributed to brightening up of arrivals from
Kotgarh in Himachal Pradesh. The price is likely to
witness a further dip once the crop started arriving from
Jammu and the surrounding areas after a fortnight.
As far as the prices of
green almond and pomegranate were concerned, these also
have come down during this period. A kg of green almond,
priced at Rs 40 just two days back, was available today
for Rs 30. The wholesale price of the fruit was around Rs
90 per five kg pack. Similarly, if a kg of pomegranate
was priced at Rs 40 a kg just two days back, it was
available today for Rs 30. The wholesale price of the
fruit has come down from Rs 120 to Rs 90 per five kg.
Similarly, melon was
also cheaper today as it was available between Rs 12 and
Rs 15 a kg in different city markets. Earlier, the fruit
had been selling for Rs 20 a kg. There was no change in
the price of watermelon as it was still selling at Rs 8 a
kg. The same was the case with peach, as it too was
selling at the old price of between Rs 20 and Rs 25 a kg.
A dozen bananas was priced at Rs 20 in different markets
today.
On the other hand, the
price of grapes have gone up during this period. A kg of
grapes, available between Rs 30 and Rs 40 just two days
back, was priced between Rs 50 and Rs 55 today. The
wholesale price of the commodity has gone up from Rs 120
to Rs 150-190 per four kg pack.
