Madhuri Dixit weds surgeon

CHANDIGARH, Nov 4 — Film-star Madhuri Dixit has taken the marital plunge, marrying a Los Angeles-based Indian surgeon, Dr Shriram Nene. The arranged marriage, which was kept a closely guarded secret, took place at the Los Angeles residence of her brother Ajit Dixit on October 17. Secretary of Madhuri Dixit Rakesh Nath "Riku" rang up The Tribune to give the news.

Family

Madhuri is the daughter of Mr. Shankar Rao Dixit and Mrs. Snehlata Dixit. She is said to be born on 15 May, 1964 however others claim that she was born three years later in 1967. She is the youngest of Mr and Mrs Dixits four children. Her brother, Mr. Ajit Dixit, is a physicist and a researcher in the Chicago area. One of her sisters (Mrs. Bharti Adkar) works in the San Fransisco bay area while the other sister (Roopa) is also in the US and lives in the Reston, VA. While her real name is Madhuri Shankar Dixit but her parents and friends lovingly call her Bubbly.

Education

Initially Madhuri wanted to be a pathologist and was still at Parle College, Bombay (studying Biology), when her first film Abodh was made and released in 1984. Things looked bleak indeed for Madhuri, as "the film was declared a disaster at the box-office," on her own admission. She was educated in a Convent and learnt Kathak for eight years.
