BATHINDA
Ban:
The District Magistrate, Mr S.R. Ladhar, has imposed a ban on cable operators to relay Cartoon Network telecast on the TNT channel. The step has been taken in view of complaints by parents.

Inaugurated: The Deputy Commissioner has inaugurated the Community Centre-cum-Panchayat Ghar at Chak Fateh Singh Wala village. Speaking on the occasion he promised to provide financial aid to unemployed youth to start their own business. He also distributed five sewing machines, blankets and clothes to the poor. Mr A.K. Kundra, Chief Engineer, Punjab State Electricity Board announced that a 66 KV grid costing Rs 3 crore would be started at the village.

HOSHIARPUR
Public safety:
In addition to its duty of maintaining law and order and to ensure the safety of the public, the district police has launched a social service campaign. Mr R.P. Mittal, SSP, inaugurated the first aid centre at Mandiala village on Hoshiarpur-Jalandhar road, 10 km from here on Sunday. The centre had been set up by the police with the help of a Tractor company and the residents of Mahilpur so as to provide first aid to those injured. An ambulance has also been provided for this purpose.

Children's day: Children of Saint Soldier Public School on Sunday staged a peace march through main bazars of the city to commemorate the birth anniversary of Jawahar Lal Nehru.

KHANNA
Engineers' forum:
The following were elected office-bearers of Khanna Circle Engineers' Forum here on Saturday: Convener — Mr M.P.S. Dhillon; Co-Convener — Mr Karan Singh Gill; and Cashier — Mr Iqbal Singh Dhillon.

Sangat darshan: A sangat darshan programme was organised at Ghudani Kalan under the presidentship of the SSP, Khanna, Mr R.L. Bhagat. Over 200 persons from 20 villages attended this programme. Addressing the gathering the SSP urged the people to help the police to prevent crime in the area. The SDM, Payal, Mr Ajit Pal, the DSP, Payal, Mr Balraj Singh and MLA, Mr Sadhu Singh Ghudani, were also present.

MOGA
Association's election:
The annual election to the local Bar Association has been postponed to November 27. This was decided at a meeting of the association which was convened by the Returning Officer Mr Sujan Singh, here on Sunday.

PATIALA
Office-bearers:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Bar Association, Samana: President — Mr Ravinder Kumar Sahota; Vice-President — Mr Joginder Singh Ghuman; Secretary — Mr Jaswinder Singh Kaleka; Joint Secretary — Mr Navdeep Singh Dhillon; and Cashier — Mr Gurinder Pal Singh Saggu.

Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Rotaract Club, Government Mohindra College: Patron — Mr Mukhtiar Singh; Chairman — Prof S.C. Sharma; President — Mr Siddharth Sharma; Vice-President — Ms Kamalinder Kaur; Secretary — Mr Rohit Bansal; and Finance Secretary — Ms Vidhi Dixit.

Millers' demand: The Punjab Rice Millers Association has urged the state government not revive laboratories of the Food and Supply Department. In an appeal to the Chief Minister, Mr Tarsem Saini, President of the association, said they were ready to discuss the matter with the government. Mr Saini said the laboratories had been closed earlier by the state government because of several cases of corruption.

TARN TARAN
Eye camp:
Mr Manoranjan Kalia, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, inaugurated a two-day free eye camp at Pandori Ran Singh village on Friday. The camp was organised by the Health Department along with gram panchayats of the area and other social organisations. Dr Rajinder Singh, Civil Surgeon, Amritsar, Giani Kewal Singh, Jathedar Takht Sri Damdama Sahib addressed villagers on the occasion.

Bus service: Mr Sawinder Singh Doblian, member Block Samiti, in a press note issued here on Saturday, demanded the restoration of bus service from Taran Taran to Gaggobua via Jeobala, Doblian and other villages for the convenience of students and other residents of the area.

Dowry death: The Sarhali police has registered a case under Section 306, IPC, against four persons for allegedly being involved in the death of a woman. The father of the deceased, Kanwalpreet Kaur (25), had alleged in his complaint that his daughter's husband and in-laws used to harass her for bringing insufficient dowry. Due to this his daughter had allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison. The post-mortem was performed on Friday.

Model contest: The Indian Arts and SSIS, a body of journalists, will organise a mega model contest at the Chandigarh Club here on November 23. The contest will feature 20 top models of the region for eight titles, besides the coveted Mega Model ‘99 title. The contest will be choreographed by Priyanka Singh and anchored by Pallab Bose.

Motivating readers: A programme to promote reader’s motivation will be organised at Government College, Sector 46 on November 16, a press release said here on Sunday. The functions will coincide with the occasion of the National Book Week from November 14 to 20.

Relief for Orissa: Various associations of the Grain Market have decided to send three truckloads of rice and food material to the cyclone victims of Orissa. According to the spokesman of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, Mr Diwakar Sahoonja, every member of the mandal has also decided to contribute a minimum of Rs 500 to the relief fund. The goods purchased from the fund would be sent direct to the cyclone-victims with the help of the Red Cross Society of Chandigarh.

Health awareness: A strategy to implement family health awareness campaign (FHAC) in 10 district of Haryana was finalised at the conference of civil surgeon at Panchkula, near here, on Saturday. According to a press note, the districts where the FHAC would be implemented are Panchkula, Rewari, Yamuna Nagar, Kaithal, Hisar, Bhiwani, Jind, Sonepat, Sirsa and Karnal. Earlier, the Health Department had implemented awareness campaign in five districts. The week-long FHAC will begin on December 2.top

PANIPAT
Power theft:
The Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam (HVPN) has imposed a fine of Rs 59.27 lakh in 549 cases of power theft detected in the district by the end of October. A sum of Rs 27.07 lakh had already been recovered by the nigam. This was stated by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Sandeep Garg, on Saturday. He said as many as 696 cases of power theft had been detected in both the city and suburban divisions. After imposing penalties in 549 cases, police cases had been registered in the remaining 147 cases.

REWARI
Competitions held:
As many as 14 students of nursery, primary, middle and senior classes, respectively, participated in the fancy dress competition as well as science, geography and art and craft exhibitions held on the eve of Children's Day in Holychild Public School here on Friday. Mr O.N. Bansal, General Manager of the Gurgaon Gramin Bank, gave away prizes to the participants.

ROHTAK
Pistols seized:
The police has seized two pistols in separate incidents in the past 24 hours. Two persons have also been arrested in this connection. According to police sources, the CIA staff intercepted Vijender, a resident of Kailash Colony here, and seized an unlicensed .32 bore revolver from him. In another incident an unlicensed pistol of .35 bore was recovered from Raj, alias Raja, a resident of Indira Colony.

SIRSA
CM's tour:
The Chief Minister of Haryana, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, while addressing public meetings said the Regional Centre of Kurukshetra University at Phoolkan would start shortly. At school level, the government would fill all vacant posts of the teachers, he added. The CM assured that roads would also be repaired by November 30. New water works would also be constructed. Construction of boundary walls around the schools, cremation ground and veterinary hospital, would also be taken up, he added.

SONEPAT
Examination centre:
The management of National Open School, New Delhi, has set up an examination centre at Raunaq Public School, Ganaur, for the students of the region. Mr Prithvi Singh Chauhan, President of the Haryana Samajik Sangharsh Morcha, on Sunday demanded setting up of the centre here as majority of the students of the local Navyug Public School, would also appear in the examination.

Fete organised: The Chief General Manager of Atlas Cycle Industries, Mr N.P. Sinha, inaugurated an annual fete on the premises of Jankidas Kapur Public School in connection with the birthday of Jawahar Lal Nehru here on Sunday. Mr Sinha paid homage to Nehru and asked the students to follow his ideals. Large number of people also joined the prabhat pheri organised on this occasion.

Case solved: The Sadar police claimed to have solved a case of car snatching on gun-point from Kartar Singh, a resident of Narinder Nagar on October 15 with the arrest of a youth, Chand, alias Jaibir, of Lehrara village in this connection. The SSP, Mr K.P. Singh, told mediapersons here on Sunday that the police had also recovered the car, a countrymade pistol and a cartridge from the arrested youth.

BILASPUR
Financial aid sought:
The Himachal Pradesh State Beopar Mandal has urged the government to take immediate steps to ensure financial aid and bank loans at cheaper rates of interest to shopkeepers and persons whose shops and houses had been destroyed in a fire on the Divali night in Solan. Addressing media-persons here on Saturday the state General Secretary of the mandal, Mr Jaikumar, said the government should provide help to the victims and rehabilitate them. He appealed to all beopar mandals, traders and shopkeepers of the state to help these families and traders.

Criticised: The state teachers' association has criticised the Education Department for promoting senior JBT teachers, after about 25 to 30 years of service, to the grade of Central Teachers and for posting them to remote areas without providing any financial benefit or relief under the "22-C" system. While addressing mediapersons here on Saturday the Senior Vice-President of the association, Mr Hukam Singh Thakur, demanded that either the Education Department should post these teachers near to their homes after promotion or grant them the benefits under the "22-C" system. He also urged the Education Minister to look into the matter.

CHAMBA
Shopping Complex:
A project worth Rs 1.62 crore called Integrated Development of Small and Medium Towns recommended programme has recently been approved for the town. It envisages the construction of a shopping complex at the local bus-stand, repair of roads, parking-lots and construction of breast walls to conserve the western slopes of historic chowgan. The development of parks, improvement of drains and construction of 'barat ghar' would also be taken up besides the beautification of the town.
