1-min timeout rule in TT nationals
By Our Sports Reporter

CHANDIGARH, Nov 18 — "A time out of one minute in every game has been allowed for table tennis players under the latest set of rules." This was said by Mr Gopal Rahut, Chief Referee for the 61st National Table Tennis Championship to begin here on Saturday.

Though the Bengal players are hogging the limelight in both boys' and girls' sections, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra players should be a treat to watch as well.

Petroleum Sport Control Board was providing employment to top table tennis players of the country and majority of them belonged to Bengal.

Mr Rahut is the second senior most table tennis umpire in the country after Mr A.M. Lele who is an international referee, and has been the chief referee at various junior nationals in the past many years.

On the performance of player of North India, Mr Rahut said due to a lack of exposure and specialised coaching for promising players, their performance was suffering.

"The number of tournaments organised are very less in this part of the country," he said. He said he was satisfied at the performance of the Chinese coach who had been sponsored by the PSCB Academy at Mumbai. He said this was one of the reasons why good players were attracted to PSCB.

He said a player could wear clothes of any colour provided it did not clash with the colour of the ball being used.Back
