Urged:
Members of the local branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) urged the Punjab Government on Sunday to revoke the suspension of Dr Jagraj Singh Sandhu, Senior Medical Officer (SMO) at the Civil Hospital, here. He was suspended for allegedly preparing a wrong medico-legal report. In a press note issued here, Dr Rajesh Maheshwary, President, IMA, said the state government should revoke its orders as Dr Sandhu was not involved in the preparation of the MLR.

Elected:
The following have been elected the office-bearers of the Northern India Photographic Society: President — Mr Harbans Lal Dhand (Moga); Senior Vice-President — Mr Gurcharan Singh (Kanpur); Vice-President — Mr Vinod Kapoor (Delhi); General Secretary — Mr Nirmal Kumar (Kota); Joint Secretary — Mr Romesh Kumar (Lucknow); and Treasurer — Mr Mohan Gandhi (Rohtak).

LUDHIANA
Removed:
The state President of the Janata Dal (U), Mr Jagir Singh Ganesh, has removed Mr Kartar Singh (Patnawale) from the post of acting President of the district Ludhiana (Urban) unit of the party.

Urged: The Citizens Welfare Association, Panchkula, has urged the Haryana Government and the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) to grant permission to STD/PCO/fax/photostat machines to run such activities from residential premises on the pattern of Chandigarh in order to give relief to the public.

Eye camp: More than 500 patients with eye ailments were examined and 82 cataract operations performed by surgeons at a free eye camp organised by the Lions Club Chandigarh City at the BSH Arya Senior Secondary School, Sohana.

Blood donation: A blood donation camp was held on Monday at the Rotary Vocational Training Centre, Sector 18, jointly by the Rotary Club of Chandigarh, the Inner Wheel Club of Chandigarh and the Rotract Club in association with the Blood Bank Society, PGI.

Dead phones: Telephone subscribers of Kambala and Kambali, near Phase 11, SAS Nagar, are a harassed lot as their telephones have been "dead" since September 30. Villagers alleged that repeated complaints to the Telephone Exchange in Phase V, SAS Nagar, have failed to improve the things.

Medical camp:
As many as 300 persons were examined at a medical camp organised by the Lions Club Chandigarh (nightingale) at Kambala village, near here, on Sunday. Mr Sublesh Bansal, President of the club, said patients were examined for eye, dental and general ailments and were given on-the-spot medication by a team of doctors.

IT employees:
Mr Anil Kumar Chhabra has been elected President of district unit of the Income Tax Department Employees Federation. He defeated his nearest rival by a margin of 27 votes in the annual election held here on Sunday. Mr Dharam Singh Narwal was elected Secretary, while Mr Rameshwar and Mr Balwan Singh were elected Joint Secretary and Treasurer, respectively.

Liquor seized: English wine worth about Rs 2.50 lakh was seized by the police in Bahadurgarh subdivision of Jhajjar district on Saturday. A vehicle carrying about 245 boxes of fine quality wine was intercepted near Siddipur village near Bahadurgarh town. The liquor was being smuggled out of the state. A case has been registered.

The following were elected office-bearers of the Haryana PWD Mechanical Employees Union Public Health (Sirsa branch) in its elections held here on Saturday: Chairman — Mr Thandi Ram Sharma; President — Mr Rajvir Rohila; General Secretary — Mr Ved Parkash Dhankar; Senior Vice-President — Mr Roop Ram; Joint Secretary — Mr Mohan Lal Sharma; and Treasurer — Mr Gopal Dass Pahuja.

SONEPAT
Warned:
The Country and Town Planning Department warned the colonisers on Sunday that the state government would take legal action against them if they were found guilty of setting up unauthorised residential colonies and selling the plots to people. Several complaints had been received by the state government alleging the sale of residential plots in the unauthorised colonies by colonisers. The department has also appealed to the people not to purchase any plot in such colonies and construct any house there.

House gutted: A 12-room house was gutted in a fire which broke out on Saturday night at Jagat Sukh village, 7 km from here on the Manali-Kulu Road. Property worth several lakhs was destroyed in the fire. The SDM Mr Amrit Lal Sharma, reached the spot and supervised the relief and rescue work. An immediate relief grant of Rs 10,000 was given to the three affected families.top
