JALANDHAR
Fund:
Lt Gen Kamal Davar, GoC, Vajra corps, received a draft for Rs 1 lakh from Mr G.K. Agnihotri, President of District Bar Association, for the benefit of families of Kargil martyrs, on Thursday, somewhere in the western sector. The amount would be deposited in the Army Welfare Fund.
Elected:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Junior Telecom Officers Association: President — Mr M.K. Sehgal; Secretary — Mr K.S. Saini; and Treasurer — Mr Parvinder Kumar.

NAWANSHAHR
Dry days:
The District Magistrate, Dr S.Roshan Sunkaria, on Wednesday ordered that dry days would be observed from September 3 to 6 and October 5 to 7 under the Punjab Excise Act 1914. All restaurants, clubs, hotels, ahatas, have been told to obey the orders.

PATIALA
Office-bearers:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the local Lions club (Khashboo": President — Mr Sudhir Pathak; Secretary — Mr Satish Garg; and Treasurer — Mr S.K. Malhotra.

SAMRALA
Imprisonment:
Granthi Balraj Singh of Sickanderpur village under Machhiwara police station was sentenced to three months of imprisonment under Section 379 and 411 of the IPC by Ms Ranjeet Kaur, Subdivisional Judicial Magistrate, on Thursday.
Acquitted:
Jaswinder Singh of Nagra village was acquitted on Thursday by Mr Paramjit Singh, local Subdivisional Magistrate, in a case under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act registered for allegedly keeping 12 bottles of IMFL liquor.

Office bearers: The following have been elected the office-bearers of the City Beautiful Club: President — Mr Vishal Sharma; General Secretary — Ms Monisha Sharma; Vice-President — Mr Abhishek Sharma; Joint Secretary — Mr Sanjeev Mehta; Organising Secretaries — Mrs Michell, Mr Rinku Bhambri and Mr Amit Vijan; and Programme Secretary — Mrs Neha.
Cassette released: A Punjabi audio cassette 'Ishq-Ishq Na Kareya Kar' was released on Friday in Sector 35. Three singers, Harpal Sanehi, Deepak Vaid and Harnam Jogi have sung six songs for the cassette which has the music by Atul Sharma and lyrics by Harpal Sanehi, Surjit Jhasanwala, Amrik Gafil and Hardev Tainpi.

KHARAR
Supported: At a general-body meeting held here on Friday, the Indian Ex-Servicemen League District Ropar decided to extend support to the RRD candidate from the Chandigarh Lok Sabha constituency, Col Harsharan Singh (retd), in the election. They appealed to other voters, besides ex-servicemen, to vote for Col Harsharan Singh and support Bibi Satwinder Kaur Dhaliwal from the Ropar constituency

AMBALA
Woman dead:
Sarvjit, a resident of a village near Naggal, in this district who was allegedly set on fire by her in-laws died of the burns in Civil Hospital on Thursday. The police has registered a case against the father-in-law and the mother-in-law of the deceased.
Accident:
The President of the Haryana Akali Dal (Badal), Mr Sukhdev Singh Gobindgarh and his gunman, were injured in an accident near Aggarsen chowk here on Thursday. Both have been admitted to a private nursing home in the city.

FATEHABAD
Ban on vehicles:
To keep the law and order situation in the district under control, the District Magistrate has banned the plying of all vehicles on Sunday, the day of polling. Only those who have obtained permits from the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Returning Officer of the Sirsa parliamentary constituency will be allowed to ply their vehicles on Sunday.

ROHTAK
Holiday:
The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Arun Kumar, has ordered that all government and private educational institutions in the district, including ITI's, will remain close on September 4 in order to make arrangements for polling in this parliamentary constituency on Sunday.

SONEPAT
Competitions:
The district unit of the Bharat Vikas Parishad will organise cartoon and Shri Ram Charit Manas chaupai gayan competitions on Monday in various educational and religious institutions in connection with "development week" being observed this month.
Body recovered:
The city police has recovered the body of a worker lying in a deserted plot of Sector 12, a residential colony of HUDA, here, on Thursday.
Body identified:
The Railway Police on Thursday claimed to have identified the body of a woman which was recovered from the railway track between Sonepat and Harsana Kalan Railway Stations on August 27. The victim has been identified as Ms Rani Devi, wife of Deep Chand, of Khanpur Kalan village in this district. The father of the victim had earlier lodged an FIR with the Railway Police stating that her daughter was married about eight years ago and was being harassed by her in-laws for bringing insufficient dowry. A case has been registered against her in-laws.
One killed: Sher Singh, a resident of Dudhela village in Faridabad, was killed and another injured the two trucks collided on the G.T. Road near Kundli village, 25 km from here, on Thursday.
Lok Adalat:
As many as 76 cases were settled at a Lok Adalat organised on the premises of the judicial court here on Thursday. Mr D.K. Sharma, Judicial Magistrate presided over the Lok Adalat.
Drowned:
An 18-month-old girl fell into a tub filled with water and was drowned in her house at the foodgrains market here on Thursday. The mother of the victim was not present when the incident occurred.

YAMUNANAGAR
Accident:
Jaswant Singh an ex-serviceman died on the spot when his motor cycle collided with a bus at Mangoli village. The police has registered a case under Sections 279and 304 of the IPC against the driver of the bus, who has absconded.

Frustrated man:
A local cloth merchant in frustration allegedly, cut off his private part with a scissors in his shop. He was immediately shifted to the local subdivisional hospital and was later on referred to Ludhiana.
