CHANDIGARH, Sept 4 Fifteen-year-old Irina Brar, a Class X student of Vivek High School clinched The Aman Nat Memorial Trophy at Chandigarh Golf Club, scoring a two under par 70 (gross) round today. Irina looked set for great things from the beginning, firing a birdie on the opening hole and on the fourth again. Two unlucky puts that lipped out on the third and fifth holes saw her playing level par all the way to the 10th hole. She then scored two superb back-to-back birdies on the 11th and 12th holes and was two under par with six holes to go. Displaying steely nerves well beyond her years, Irina made par on every hole thereafter to wrap up a superb championship round of 7 under par 65 (nett). Talking to the press later, Irina said she was very happy to have played the best round of her life and that too in a tournament. Guneet Raikhy had another disappointing round of 83. In the boys' under-18 and the under-15 categories, Sagar Bhatia overhauled overnight leader karanvir to take the gross prize. Ajitesh Sandhu played another excellent round of 86 to finish at the top of his category and clinched prizes in the under-15 and under-18 categories (nett) as well. In the girls' under-15 section, Sharan Dhaliwal made a great start and had overtaken the overnight leader, Sruthi Reddy, by the ninth hole. But a disastrous finish at the 18th green gave Sruthi the lead again. In the under-10 category, the leader Ajitesh Sandhu was followed by Angad Matharoo. At a festive prizegiving ceremony at the CGC lawns this afternoon, Mrs Nat, sponsor of the tournament, and Mr CSR Reddy, IPS, gave away the prizes to the winners.
