SRINAGAR, Sept 21 (PTI) — An Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) jawan was killed and five others sustained injuries in an ambush by militants in the Duksum area of Anantnag district in south Kashmir in the wee hours today, an official spokesman said.

The militants ambushed an ITBP search party in the area around 2 a.m. killing head constable Lashkar Singh and wounding five others, he said.

The ITBP party, which had gone to the area to flush out the militants following information about their presence there, retaliated. However, the militants escaped under cover of darkness, the spokesman said.

He said the area was sealed off by the ITBP reinforcements and a hunt had been launched to nab the militants.

In another incident, unidentified militants shot dead a released militant, Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, in the Awantipora area on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway late last night. The gunmen barged into the house of Dar and killed him.Top
