ITBP jawan killed, 5 hurt in ambush SRINAGAR, Sept 21 (PTI) An Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) jawan was killed and five others sustained injuries in an ambush by militants in the Duksum area of Anantnag district in south Kashmir in the wee hours today, an official spokesman said. The militants ambushed an ITBP search party in the area around 2 a.m. killing head constable Lashkar Singh and wounding five others, he said. The ITBP party, which had gone to the area to flush out the militants following information about their presence there, retaliated. However, the militants escaped under cover of darkness, the spokesman said. He said the area was sealed off by the ITBP reinforcements and a hunt had been launched to nab the militants. In another incident,
unidentified militants shot dead a released militant,
Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, in the Awantipora area on the
Srinagar-Jammu national highway late last night. The
gunmen barged into the house of Dar and killed him. |
Repoll in 12 stations JAMMU, Sept 21 (PTI) Repoll has been ordered in 12 polling stations of two Assembly segments of Gulabgarh and Gool-Arnas in the Udhampur Parliamentary constituency on September 25, a spokesman said here today. The polling stations going to repoll in the Gulabgarh Assembly segment include Badder, Shivraas, Neouch, Dewal No. 2, Gulabgarh, Barnsal No.1, Barnsal No.1-A, Barnsal No.2, Khore, Lar and Shudole. Another polling station of Chalad No.1, where a repoll had been ordered, fell in the Gool-Arnas Assembly segment. A total of 6496 voters
would exercise their franchise on September 25. |
