Dharna by PUTA executive
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, Sept 23 — The executive of the Panjab University Teachers Association staged a dharna in front of the Vice-Chancellor's office on a call given by the AIFUTA here today.

Dr P.P.Arya, president of the PUTA, said the UGC circular for a 10 per cent cut in salary budget and staff employees' employment was not good for the academic interests.Although there was information that the 10 per cent cut had been taken back in case posts of teacher, the PUTA had not yet received a formal information notice in this concern.

The increment of the pay commission remained to be implemented in 15 states including Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerela, Bihar and West Bengal among others. This needed immediate redressal, it was stressed.

Dr Satya. P Gautam , a former president of the PUTA said that except central universities, no arrears had been paid to staff in other places.

This was probably the first time, Dr Arya said, that teachers had not been paid the sum that they deserved for encashment of the earned leave.

Even at the local level , the university needed to announce a viable pension scheme at the earliest, Dr Arya said.

The AIFUTA body in the North Zone meets on October 25. The association plans dharna in front of syndicate and senate meeting in October.Back
