PUSU for action against defaulting mess contractors
Chandigarh, March 4
The Panjab University Students Union (PUSU) has stated that the Dean Students Welfare, PU, should be taking action against the hostel food contractors who had been caught red handed, providing substandard food to the hostel residents, during a surprise check conducted by PUSU along with the hostel wardens last month.

Pay 1 lakh relief to encounter victim

In just over 11 years after a student was allegedly killed in a police encounter, Mr Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed the state of Punjab to pay Rs 1 lakh as interim compensation to the victim’s father within six months.

Three-year RI for two

Two residents of Guru Sagar Colony were sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment today by a local court in a case of mischief by fire and explosive substance with an intention to endanger life. The two — Ram Naresh and Pappu — were also directed to pay a fine of Rs 500 by the court.
