Sidhu’s resignation rejected
Chandigarh, August 16
The Punjab Government has rejected the resignation of suspended PPSC Chairman, Ravinder Pal Singh Sidhu.
Informed official sources said “the state government wanted that Sidhu should be removed from office by ordering his dismissal”.
30 killed in Poonch mishap
Jammu, August 16
At least 30 persons, including women, were killed and 10 others wounded when their Matador rolled down into the Dangli Nullah in Poonch today.
According to the police, 28 bodies had been recovered so far.
Zaffarwal acquitted in passport case
Amritsar, August 16
Wassan Singh Zaffarwal, chief of the Khalistan Commando Force, was today acquitted by the court of Mr Jasbir Singh Kang, Judicial Magistrate (First Class), Ajnala, due to lack of evidence. He was acquitted in the case relating to his entry in India on forged documents and a fake passport.

The Union Railway Minister, Mr Nitish Kumar, while announcing that the Centre would bring a supplementary budget in the coming winter session to arrange funds for various safety measures and construction of railway overbridges (ROB) and underbridges (RUB) said the Railway authorities had started exploring non-traditional sources to enhance its income to meet its liabilities.
