‘Indirect tax disputes can be settled within one year’
Chandigarh, September 20
The Customs and Central Excise Settlement Commission endeavours to settle indirect tax disputes placed before it within six months to a year, with timeframes fixed for each stage of the disposal, thereby saving time and effort both for the litigant and the department, said Mr N. Rajagopalan, Chairman, Settlement Commission (Customs and Central Excise), in Chandigarh today.
IAF plan to install radio rescue beacons

Following several air crashes where the IAF found it difficult to locate missing aircraft or the aircrew, a project has been initiated to install radio rescue beacons and detector equipment in aircraft.
Press Club criticises Kanwar Sandhu incident

OLLING in the graduate constituency of the Senate may have been a lacklustre affair, given the low voter turnout during elections. However, to make up for the lack of enthusiasm among voters, the supporters more than made up for it.
They lent a festive air to the booths, putting up posters of
their candidates in their tents and distributing pamphlets and
cards. They were there from the beginning of the election to its
very end, approaching voters and asking for votes, untiringly,
despite the hot weather conditions.
