An estimated 55 to 60 per cent of the electorate exercised their franchise in the Maharashtra Assembly polls but the percentage of polling varied between 12 and 60 per cent in four by-elections for Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, according to the Election Commission.

Barring stray incidents of violence, polling in Kapurthala and
Garhshankar mostly remained peaceful as more than 65 per cent of the 2.4
lakh voters sealed the fate of 22 contestants in electronic voting

killed in Uttar Pradesh poll violence
Lucknow, October 13
Despite unprecedented arrangements by the Election Commission, three
persons were killed in the violence reported from 12 Vidhan Sabha and
one Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.
