Heroin seized
: The Border Security Force 162 Battalion on Monday recovered 3-kg of heroin and a pistol, four live cartridges in the Jalalabad West area, from smugglers who reportedly escaped into Pakistanís territory. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Guruharsahai police station, officials added. This was third bid to smuggle heroin in the same sector during this year.

6 BOOKED: The Dehlon police has registered a case under Sections 323, 148 and 149 of the IPC against Manjit Singh, alias Buddhu, Kamaljit Singh, Hari Singh, Happy, Bara Singh and Paranjit Singh of Dhoolkot on the charge of assaulting Piara Singh on Tuesday. An old dispute is said to be reason behind the assault. No arrest has been made so far.

STOLEN: In two cases of theft, the local police has booked two unknown persons. In the first incident, a thief stole an electric engine from the fields of Randhir Singh at Chowki Maan on Tuesday night. In the other incident, a thief stole a 10 HP Peter Engine from Sohian village on Monday.

MOTORCYCLE TAKEN AWAY: Some persons allegedly took away a motorcycle (No PB-41A-7695) and Rs 16,000 from Gurpinder Singh of Jangpur on November 20. The Dakha police has registered a case under Sections 382, 341 and 34 of the IPC.

15 BOOKED: The Sidhwan Bet police has registered a case under Sections 436, 447, 511, 427, 148, 149, 323, 341 and 120-B of the IPC against Makhan Singh, Satnam Singh, Bhajan Singh, Miti, Gattu, Pogi, Naib Singh, Lala of Malsihan Bajan, Babu, Mohinder Singh of Parjian Biharipur and five other unknown persons on the charge of trespassing on the land of Soma Bai of Kanian Hussaini and assaulting Surjit Singh, Major Singh, Jamna Bai and Haro Bai of her village. The accused tried to damaged the crop on the land of Soma Bai on Tuesday evening.



Project inaugurated
: Lakhwiner Kaur Garcha, OSD, CM Punjab inaugurated the project of beautification of parks in Phase-IX, here, on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, she said GMADA has been constituted for the development of Mohali. She added with the coming of mega projects in Mohali, more than two lakh youth will get employment.

SD College wins: The SD College English declamation team has won the first prize in a competition held at Kurukshetra University, here, on Wednesday. Ms Neena Malhotra, Head of Department, English, said the two students, Ms Jhalak and Ms Vaishali, won the prize in a competition organised by Dr Saroop Singh from the English department, Kurukshetra University on the subject `Literature and  Society'.



: Mule-operator identified as Sharvan from Randhara village in Mandi Sadar block died on Tuesday after he fell into a nallah. He had gone to visit a friend. The police has registered a case.

: Himachal Governor V.S. Kokje, inaugurated the induction training programme for 2006 batch on Indian Audit & Accounts Service Officers at the National Academy of Audit & Accounts, here on Tuesday. He favoured submission of audit and accounts reports in time.
