TT meet from Sept 17:Banyan Tree School, Sector 48, will be organising the
CBSE-XII Cluster Table Tennis Tournament for Boys and Girls at the Table Tennis Hall, Sector 23, from September 17 to 19 here. said. Social worker dies:Veteran Om Prakash Aggarwal (89), founder of Arya College for Girls, today passed away after falling from the rooftop of his residence. He was then rushed to the Civil Hospital, Kharar, in a serious condition and was later referred to the PGI, Chandigarh, where he was declared brought dead. Aggarwal, who had established RSS wing in Kharar in 1940 was the senior leader of the
BJP. Encroachments removed from Sec 19:The Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, removed encroachments made by 13 shopkeepers in Sadar Bazar, Sector 19, here today, under the supervision of P K Sharma, Additional Commissioner, assisted by K D Sharma, enforcement inspector, along with the supporting staff.The anti-encroachment team of the corporation had to face mild resistance from the encroachers, but no untoward incident took place.

Power shutdown: To carry out the maintenance and repair work of 132 KV and 33 KV jumpers and droppers of the 132/33 KV Grid Substation, Bari Brahmana-1, and Grid Station, Miran Sahib, the power supply to the Industrial Area, Bari Brahmana, Narbada, Gangyal, Jakh, Vijaypur, Kartholi, RS Pura, Bishnah, Seora, Salehar and Miran Sahib shall remain affected on September 13 (7 am to 12 noon). The Power Department has asked people not to use air conditioners, heaters during peak load hours. 150 intoxicant capsules seized: The police arrested a driver of a passenger vehicle at Domel naka on the

Release of 5 pc DA hailed: National Mazdoor Conference president Subash Shastri has hailed the Union Cabinet’s decision of releasing the instalment of 5 per cent DA due from July this year in favour of the central government employees. Shastri appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to release the instalment of the DA to the state employees and pensioners before Eid-ul-Fittr so that the employees and pensioners could get some relief from the rising prices of the essential commodities.

Best legislator award: The Legislative Council has decided to institute a best legislator award on the pattern of the Assembly and it will be conferred on an “outstanding legislator” from this year, deputy chairman of the council Arvinder Singh Micky said on Friday. Legislators BR Kundal, Mohammad Yousuf Taing, Murtaza Ahmed Khan and Abdul Gani Vakil, principal secretary, Law, AH Kochak, director, Estates, Khurshid Ahmed and other officials attended the meeting.
