Some unidentified assailants threw acid on a couple while they were returning home on a motorcycle after visiting a private hospital. The incident took place on the Churpur road at Haibowal late last evening.

Review meeting of banks held

A review meeting of banks for the quarter ending June 2009 was organised recently. Annual credit plan for 2009-10 was formulated for Rs 5,821-crore disbursement under the priority sector by banks in the Ludhiana district alone. During the first quarter of 2009-10, the banks had disbursed Rs 1,551 crore against the target of Rs 1,517 crore in the priority sector advances.

Two booked for cheating

Two persons have been booked for cheating a woman on the pretext of sending her daughter to Canada. Sukhdev Kaur of Rurka village near Mullanpur in a complaint lodged with the police had stated that Tejwinder Singh Sekhon, the accused, and his wife, Kulwinder Kaur, lured her to send her daughter, Ramandeep Kaur, to Canada for a nanny course.

Three booked for gangrape

Three persons, including the father-in-law of the complainant, have been booked for the gang-rape. A resident of Mehal Kalan in Barnala district in a complaint lodged with police and a petition in the High Court had stated that she got married to Ajaib Singh.
