Two travel agents held for cheating youth
Jagraon, March 20
The Sidhwan Bet police today arrested two travel agents for cheating a person to the tune of Rs 7 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. Jasparkash Singh of Moga in his complaint to SSP Ludhiana (Rural) said Manjit Kaur, alias Surjit Kaur of Galib Khurd, in connivance of her relative, Sampooran Singh and his son Jasmail Singh of Galib Ran Singh, cheated him.

PSEB’s JE thrashed

A junior engineer with the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) was thrashed while he was returning to the office after disconnecting the connection of a defaulter at Karamsar Colony here. According to Rajinder Kumar, the junior engineer, Rohit of Gabhi property dealer owes an outstanding bill of Rs 1. 40 lakh to the board. Kumar said Rohit and his friends thrashed him and his colleague Varinder Singh while he was returning home. A case has been registered in this regard.

Woman held for stealing jewellery

A woman was arrested today for robbing another on the pretext of giving her a lift in a car. The accused has been identified as Kali, alias Laxmi, a resident of Chhintawala village.

Woman elopes with paramour, held

The police today nabbed an accused, who along with a few unidentified persons, had absconded after committing a theft in her house. On December 29,2009, Sarabjit Kaur of Dalla village had eloped with her paramour after administering sedatives to her husband and other members of the family. She took Rs 2.4 lakh in cash beside 200 grams of jewellery with her.

Panic spread in the Tajpur road area, after the body of a youth was spotted laying in a vacant plot here today. The body, which could not be identified, was stated to be of a migrant.

Girl booked for assaulting paramour’s mother

A girl created a scene at the house of her alleged paramour in Indra Vihar Colony near Chandigarh Road after she, along with her maternal grandmother and a relative, thrashed the mother of her beloved for planning to marry the boy to some other girl.


Courier company fined Rs 10,000

The District Consumer Forum Disputes Redressal Forum has penalised a courier company- First Flight couriers- for its deficient services in a case. The courier company was ordered to pay Rs 10,000 as compensation to the aggrieved consumer.
