Mentally challenged raped
: A 21-year-old mentally challenged girl was raped today. The accused was identified as Rakesh kumar, a resident of Phase I, Baltana. The police has registered a case against him under Section 376 of the IPC. The girl was alone when she was raped.



KU to make gallery in martyr Nitin Baliís name
: Paying tributes to Major Nitin Bali on his 14th martyrdom day on Thursday, Lt-Gen.Dr DDS Sandhu (retd), Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, said a corner-cum-gallery would be established in Dharohar Museum, KU, in the martyr's name. This announcement was made at a function organised by the Road Safety Organisation and the District Red Cross Society at Panchayat Bhawan here. As many as 50 persons donated blood in a camp organised on the occasion. A debate by school children was also organised. Dr Adarsh Bali and SS Bali, Major Bali's parents, were honoured by the Vice-Chancellor. 

Cyclist killed in accident: Mangat Ram, a resident of Bhagatpur in Gurdaspur district, who was employed here at HUDA, Sector 29, was killed on the spot when a speedy unidentified vehicle struck his bicycle near the Sarswati bridge in Pipli on Tuesday.

Two arrested for murder: With the arrest of two persons, the mystery shrouding the murder of Gurumukh, alias Goldy, has been solved. The police said the arrested persons had been identified as Paramjeet of Kurukshetra and Rahul of Ambala. The accused confessed that they shot dead Goldy near Tyori village on July 13. After shooting him, they threw his body into a canal near Thol village. They were produced in a court on Thursday, which remanded them to five-day police custody. ó OC

Proclaimed offender arrested : The police has arrested proclaimed offender Ajaib Singh, a resident of Mehgawala (Yamunanagar). The court had declared him a proclaimed offender on August 14 in a case registered under Section 379, IPC, against him in 2011. He was produced in the court here on Thursday which remanded him police custody for one day.

Man dies, wife hurt as mobike slips on leaves spread on road
: A motorcyclist was killed and his wife who was riding pillion injured when their motorbike slipped near Moriwala village on the Fatehabad-Sirsa road on Tuesday night. The victim Yashpal, a shopkeeper, was returning home with his wife Veena on his motorcycle after attending a wedding party last night when their motorcycle slipped due to tree leaves left on the road to stop vehicles from hitting a truck parked on the road.
