GNDU pensioners’ assn gets office-bearers:
Amarjit Singh Bai has been unanimously elected president of the Guru Nanak Dev University Pensioners' Association while Prof Saroop Singh has been elected senior vice-president. The other office bearers included vice-presidents Prof Balwant Singh and Sewa Singh, general secretary Gyan Amar Singh, secretary Iqbal Singh Bhullar, joint secretary Dilbagh Singh Randhawa, finance secretary Surjit Singh and press secretary Manmohan Singh Dhillon. The newly elected executive members were Prof VK Taneja, Sohan Singh, Pritpal Singh, Satwant Singh, Balkar Singh, Gyan Singh, Kewal Singh and Gulzari Lal. 

Pak national attends alumni meet
: Dr Hafiz Abdul Qayyum, an 87-year-old alumnus of Punjab Agricultural University’s College of Agriculture, attended the recently held alumni meet. The ‘old boy’ had come all the way from Pakistan to meet his college mates. He shared some nostalgic moments with them at a special gathering.



Police custody for murder accused
: The district police has brought Ajay, a professional criminal having a prize of Rs 1 lakh on his head, in the Virender Kakdod murder case from Gurgaon on transit remand. He was produced in the court hereon Wednesday and was remanded in police custody for two days. District police chief Rakesh Kumar Arya said Seel Kumar of Bandowal in Jind district lodged a complaint with the police on October 17, 2011, that Virender Kakdod was sitting in Kurukshetra University market where some persons riding three motorcycles came and opened fire killing him on the spot. 

Woman commits suicide:
Meenu (25), mother of two children, committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance in her in-laws’ house at Dodua village under Gohana sadar police station late last night. On the complaint of the victim’s brother, Vinod, the police has registered a case of dowry death against her husband, Somvir, and nine others, including Somvir’s father, mother, uncle and sister. After a postmortem in the local civil hospital, the victim’s body was handed over to her family members. 

Office-bearers elected: Dr Har Bhagwan Dass Arora, president of the Senior Citizens Council, Sonepat, on Wednesday announced the names of office-bearers of the newly constituted executive committee of the council as under: OP Ellabadi and Manohar Lal Chawla — vice-presidents; BLKakkar — general secretary; Harbhagwan Raheja-- secretary; Lajpat Rai Munjhal — accounts inspector; and Harbhagwan Chawla — treasurer. JL Chaudhary, Narain Singh Dahiya, BR Ahuja, Lajpat Rai Dudeja, Prabha Aggarwal, Chander Kanta Batra and Sudershan Sethi are members of the executive committee of the council.
