City gets 2 new bus routes
Ludhiana, February 12
There is good news for city residents. Two new routes will be started under the Ludhiana City Bus Service project. These routes are from the octroi post on the main GT Road to the octroi post near the Jalandhar bypass and from the octroi post on Gill Road to the bus stand.

DSP murder case: Bail pleas of 2 dismissed
Ludhiana, Feburary 12
The court of Additional Sessions Judge Paramjit Singh today dismissed the bail applications moved by two accused in the DSP Balraj Gill and Monika Kapila murder case. Those denied bail are Hassanjit Singh and Ravinder Singh of Ludhiana.

Two unidentified motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched Rs 2.6 lakh from a man last evening. The incident took place near Billan Wali Chhapri, a locality in Khanna.

Safai workers burn effigy of govt
Ludhiana, February 12
Leaders of the Valmiki Samaj Bachao Andolan address a rally in Ludhiana on Tuesday. Up in arms against the government and the MC for awarding the work of door-to-door collection of garbage in the city to a private company, safai workers, under the aegis of the Valmiki Samaj Bachao Andolan, today staged a protest on the Jagraon Bridge and burnt an effigy of the government. The protesters marched towards the A zone office of the MC and submitted a memorandum to MC Additional Commissioner Sumit Jarangal.

Sunil Jakhar backs safai karamcharis

The safai workers have found a new messiah in Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar. Jakhar, on his way to Chotian Khurd village in Moga, addressed a rally of the workers today. MGNREGA workers seek wage hike
Ludhiana, February 12
A rally was organised by the Punjab Khet Mazdoor Sabha at the Mini-Secretariat here today. The workers said the minimum wages under the MGNREGA scheme should be increased to at least Rs 200 per day and the working hours should be eight hours. Minimum work for 15 days must be provided to the workers.

Differences among the members of the Knitwear Club were finally resolved at a meeting held last evening. Two factions had emerged in the club, one led by president Darshan Dawar and the other headed by chairman Vinod Thapar. Meetings of the executive committee were called at two places.

A youth, who was found in a critical condition in a hotel room in Jagraon, died while undergoing treatment at the local Civil Hospital today.

The Sudhar police has arrested a kingpin of a gang that has been supplying narcotics to petty dealers and peddlers of the region. Huge quantity of scheduled pharmaceutical preparations and the vehicle used in crime was seized from his possession.

4 booked for immoral trafficking
Ludhiana, February 12
With the arrest of four persons, including two women, the police has claimed to bust a flesh trade racket from Shivpuri area last light. The accused have been identified as Mutraki and Julie, both residents of Bank Colony, Parkash a resident of Bihar and Avinder Kumar a resident of Gahilawal. The police received a tip-off that Mutraki, who operates as a pimp, used to bring girls and involve them in flesh trading. Following the information, the police raided at the place last night and nabbed the accused persons. The accused have been booked under Immoral Trafficking Act. They were produced before the court and sent on remand.

Groups clash over petty issue; cop hurt
Khanna, February 12
A major clash was averted when two sections of a community, carrying weapons, took positions against each other after a minor incident. Timely action by the police averted the situation from getting worse. Passers-by ran for life when both sections of the community started pelting one another with stones in the Peer Khanna area last night.
