Earth Day today:
Various events will be held to be mark the World Earth Day at Pushpa Gujral Science City (PGSC) on Monday at 11 am. A PGSC spokesperson said special lecture on “Environment degradation Scenario” would be delivered by Dr Surinder Singh Kukal, director, School of Climate change & Agro Metrology Department, Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana. Besides, movie show on global warming would be held to celebrate the World Earth Day, he said. Various competitions, debate, cyber art, poetry and craft would also be organised on the day, he added.

66-KV power boost for Muktsar villages:
The PSPCL today inaugurated a 66 KV grid sub-station at village Phullewala in Muktsar district. The 66 KV sub-station had come up at a cost of Rs 3 crore, which would cover a number of villages. MLA, Malout, Harpreet Singh inaugurated the grid sub-station.



Motorcyclist killed:
Vikramjeet Singh of Kharindwa village in this district was killed on the spot when his motorcycle was hit by another near the village last evening. The Shahabad police has registered a case.

INLD leader to join BJP:
Arun Beniwal, a former secretary-general of the youth wing of the INLD, today decide to join the BJP. Former minister Ganeshi Lal, senior BJP leader Jagdish Chopra and district HJC president Kuldeep Bhambu were present in a function held here when Beniwal announced this decision Beniwal said the BJP was the only party which could drive India out of the “difficult situation” the Congress had put the nation into.



Motorcyclist falls into Sutlej:
A motorcyclist is said to have struck the railings of the Slapper bridge on National Highway-21 and fallen into the Sutlej due to an inertia created by the hit here on Saturday. With help of a SIM found from the accident spot, the police was informed that the motorcycle (HP-31D-0202) belonged to Jagdish, a resident of the Balha area, Mandi district.

Village house destroyed in fire:
A house at a thickly inhabited Bholag village under the Jatroon panchayat falling in Bhattiyat sub-division of the district was destroyed in a fire on Thursday night, according to a delayed report received here on Saturday. However, there is no report of loss of life. Officials from the sub-divisional headquarters township of Chowari had rushed to the fire incident site to carry out relief and rescue operations.
