        CBSE Class X results today

 The anxious wait for thousands of Class X students is set to over as the CBSE will declare the board results tomorrow after 10 am.
          Over 17,000 students appeared from Chandigarh for the Class X board exams, held in April this year. However, the number of students who took the school-based exams is comparatively less in Chandigarh as compared to other states.
 
 
        Student designs chair to save power in offices
Chandigarh, May 29
 
  Showcasing a perfect example of innovation, a student of a government school has come up with an innovative chair to save electricity in government offices where lights and fans are usually left switched on even if the employees are not present in the office. The chair has a pressure plate installed beneath it, which turns on the light with the weight of the person sitting on it and as soon as the person gets up, the pressure plate is released, which automatically turns off the light.

        New wholesale market
         
        Shop to be allocated through open auction
 Chandigarh, May 29
 The UT Administration today decided to allot shops in the new wholesale market, which will be developed in Sector 39, through open auction.
At a meeting, chaired by UT Adviser KK Sharma, it was also decided that no preference will be given to those who have
shops/SCFs in the Sector 26 market. This decision will affect the traders of Sector 26, who were demanding that shops in the Sector 39 market should be allotted to them only.
 
 
        Behl eyes Congress ticket from city

 After former Union Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal's exit from the Union Cabinet, second-rung city Congress leaders, who are eyeing the Congress ticket for the Lok Sabha poll from the city, have now started reaching UT Administrator Shivraj V Patil's doorstep.

        Non-functional coolers add to patients’ pain

  As the temperature is soaring each day, the patients at General Hospital, Sector 6,
Panchkula, are getting the taste of insensitivity of the authorities. In such hot and humid conditions, the patients continue to suffer under the non-functional coolers wards, whereas the air conditioners in the rooms of senior officers continue to keep them cool even in their absence.

        In a study conducted by the School of Public Health, PGIMER, to look for compliance with tobacco promotional and health warning display at the point of sale (PoS) in the districts of North India, it was found that the violations were more in the rural areas.
 
 
        29 MPs to visit PGI
Chandigarh, May 29
 A 29-member parliamentary committee will visit the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science and Research (PGI) on June 8 to check the functioning the institution. The committee, comprising 29 MPs and headed by Brijesh Pathak, would visit various departments of the institution. It would also undertake a study tour of the institutions in the Himachal Pradesh.
 
 
        Punjab to recruit 500 doctors
Mohali, May 29
 To meet the scarcity of medical staff in hospitals in the state, the Punjab Government is going to recruit 500 doctors very soon.
          This was stated by Punjab Health Minister Madan Mohan Mittal while inaugurating a free medical camp at Shri Guru Harkishan Sahib Charitable Eye Institute and Super Speciality Hospital at Sohana.
 
 
        5th liquor vend auction flops; only six bids made
Chandigarh, May 29
 Only six vends were auctioned in the fifth round of auction for 93 liquor vends held by the UT Excise and Taxation Department today. The department had received only 10 applications for the auction. The department received about Rs10.61 crore from the auction of these liquor vends.
 
 
        Women commandos injured in accident
Mohali, May 29
 Two women commandos landed in a private hospital after they rammed their official scooter into a parked vehicle near Diplast Chowk here this afternoon.
          According to sources, the women commandos, Nirmal Deep Kaur and Kuldeep Kaur, were riding their scooter inattentively and rammed into a Trax jeep, which was parked on the roadside. The accident occurred at around 2.15 pm.
 
 
        Ailing child needs help

 A one-year-old child is in need of Rs 1 lakh for an open heart surgery. A resident of a village, near Chandigarh, Kajal, has been suffering from a heart ailment since her birth and her family in unable to afford the cost of the surgery. She is undergoing treatment at the PGI.
 
 
        Dust storm hits city

 A dust-storm, accompanied by a drizzle, hit the city in the evening, throwing life out of gear. Some trees were uprooted, disrupting the flow of traffic. There was no forecast about the dust storm.
 
 
        Girl falls off flyover in mishap, hurt
Mohali, May 29
 A three-year-old girl, Srinika, had a miraculous escape when she fell down from the Chandigarh-Zirakpur flyover during an accident between two cars during late hours last night.
 
Power cutsZirakpur residents spend sleepless nights

 Erratic power supply has been giving the local residents sleepless nights for the past some days.
          The residents complained that the situation deteriorated last week. “The area has been witnessing unscheduled power cuts everyday and we are virtually living in a hell,” said Kamal Kapoor, a resident of New Generation Apartments.

Chandigarh: In the news item ‘Govt schools have nothing much to cheer about’ published in these columns on Wednesday, it was wrongly mentioned that Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 40, had the highest number of students failing in the exams.  GMSSS-22, in fact, had the highest number of such students.
