Forum fines institute Rs 2 lakh: The local District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum on Monday directed a local educational institution to return Rs 32,000 fee with the nine per cent interest and pay Rs 2 lakh as compensation to a student, Manjit Singh, resident of Dhura village (Tehsil Dhuri). Manjit Singh had complained to the forum, alleging that the institution had charged the fee in advance for the ETT course of the Jammu and Kashmir Board. However, the institute didn't provide him the examination roll number to appear for the exam, he
alleged.
Over 4,500 pills seized from
shop: The Lehragaga police on Monday claimed to have seized over 4,500 narcotic pills from a furniture shop in Lehragaga. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered. Later, the neighbouring shopkeepers staged a protest outside the police station. They alleged that the owner was falsely implicated. Mandip Singh Sidhu, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Sangrur, said the police would investigate the matter.
