PGI proposes to limit number of patients at its OPDs

A show, which used to cost a family of four around Rs 1,400, including beverages, will now cost more than Rs 1,800. The cost of the movie tickets has been increased by the UT Administration from today.

The mid-day meal kitchen at the GMSSS, Sector 47, in Chandigarh The education department today made mid-day meal kitchens operational in six government schools. At present, Dr Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management, Sector 42, Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management, Sector 42, Hotel Shivalik View, Sector 17, and GMSSS-47 (run by a private contractor), prepare and deliver mid-day meal to all government schools.

Workers remove encroachments from EWS houses at Sector 19-C in Chandigarh on Friday Officials of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) today carried out a demolition drive in Sector 19. Police personnel discouraged residents from stopping the drive. Violations were noticed in 150 houses in the sector. Encroachments were removed from 11 houses.

Students allege assault by police officials
Panchkula, July 19 Students of Class XII of a local school complained on Friday at the office of the Commissioner of Police, alleging assault at the hands of police officials at Sector 16 police post. “My friend was beaten up by his neighbours and he got injured. When we asked police officials to register a case, they kept on dilly-dallying,” said Diwakar, a resident of Sector 17, Panchkula.


PU hikes stipend of theatre students

6 drug peddlers held

The district police during its campaign against drug peddlers has arrested six drug peddlers and smugglers involved in the sale of drugs and illegal whisky. The police also recovered .315 bore pistol, 2 live cartridges, 27,000 intoxicant tablets, 500 grams of narcotics powder and 41 boxes of smuggled whisky from their possession.

Exempt 42 panchayats from Periphery Act: Manch

The Shiwalik Vikas Manch, an NGO of Panchkula, has sent a memorandum to the Haryana CM, the Financial Commissioner and the Chief Secretary, Town and Country Planning, Haryana, seeking exemption from the New Punjab Periphery Control Act, 1952, for 42 gram panchayats, which have been included in the Panchkula corporation under a notification of the state government issued on March 17, 2010.
