Ex-ministerís daughter is district chief of BJP IT cell:
Two-time MLA and former state minister Chaudhary Satya Devís granddaughter Sarita Chaudhary has been appointed district chief of the IT cell by the BJP. Notably, not only Satya Devís family but his native Choohriwala Dhanna village too faced neglect for a couple of years due to polarisation of power in the saffron party. BJP state IT cell joint convener Rajinder Aggarwal, partyís state executive member Arun Narang and district president Sita Ram Sharma visited Choohriwala Dhanna village on Monday to make an announcement in this regard.

BSF to hold training camps for aspirants: A newly wed couple died when the car they were travelling in was hit by a truck near Jian village on Chandigarh road. Mona Khurd village resident Jatinder Singh was on his way home from his in-laws' house at Bassi Aladdin village along with his wife Taranjit. Both of them died on the spot. The truck driver, who fled after leaving his vehicle behind, has been booked.

Library inaugurated at Nehru Memorial hospital: A Swami Vivekananda memorial library-cum-reading room, developed by Sewa Bharti, was inaugurated at Nehru Memorial Civil Hospital here. Civil Surgeon Dr Baldev Raj said it would be instrumental in propagating the teachings of Swami Vivekananda besides offering relaxed moments to attendants of patients. NGO president Satpal Gilhotra said a kitchen for indoor patients in the complex would provide free food regularly.

2 bikers killed in mishap:
Two persons were killed while one sustained injuries in a collision between the motorcycle they were on and a truck near Kharoda village on the Sirhind-Patiala road. The victims have been identified as Mohan Lal (28) and Avtar Singh (27) of Araimajra village in Mullepur. The injured has been admitted to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. A case has been registered against truck driver Subhash Gir of Sasa Gujran village in Patiala, who managed to escape.

3 held with narcotics: The police have arrested three persons after recovering 40 gm smack and 2,300 sedative capsules from their possession. Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said the arrests were made in separate incidents. The accused are Jaswinder Singh of Aluna village in Rajpura, Gurmeet Singh, alias Happy, of Ajamatpur Dera Mohammad Shah in Kurukshetra and Sunil Kumar of Patiala.

SHO among 3 suspended:
Station House Officer (Mahilpur) Inspector Paramjit Singh Chabbewal and munshis Mohinder Singh and Mohinder Pal have been placed under suspension for alleged dereliction of duty. The orders were passed by SSP Narinder Bhargav following a complaint by a battery shop owner, Harbans Lal, who accused the police of inaction in a theft case.

SFI flays Patiala varsity:
The Students Federation of India (SFI) today condemned a Punjabi University Syndicate's decision of giving five-year extension to retired professors in two phases. SFI activists said the Syndicate's decision would affect their prospects of several NET-qualified and PhD students awaiting jobs for years.

Ropar
Two killed in accidents:
Two persons were killed in as many accidents at Morinda near here on Monday. The police said Kulwinder Singh Bhola of Burmajra village died in a collision between his car and a bus. Ruldu Ram of Ropar was crossing the road near Chamkaur Sahib Chowk when a tempo hit him. He was taken to the Civil Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

3 held with illicit liquor:
Police have arrested three persons after recovering a huge quantity of illicit liquor from them. Sources said the accused have been identified as Satpal Singh of Chabal, Dharamveer Singh and Balveer Singh, both of Valtoha village. A case has been registered under the Excise Act.

Man killed in road rage:
One person was killed while other sustained injuries after they were allegedly shot at near the Kharkhoda bus stand last evening. The incident took place yesterday when Rahul allegedly shot at the occupants of a car following an altercation over not giving side to the vehicle driven by the accused, police said. Gurdeep and Praveen were rushed to the PGIMS, Rohtak, however the former succumbed to his injuries, it said.

Two booked for forgery:T
he police have registered a case of fraud against two persons for allegedly procuring a loan of Rs 1.64 crore against fake gold. In a compliant, Vinod Sharma, branch manager, Shree Ram Finance Company, stated that Jitender, a resident of Jagadhri, and Shiv Charan, a resident of Karnal, had procured a loan of Rs 1,64,27966 against fake gold from his company. The Jagadhri police have registered a forgery case against Jitender and Shiv Charan.
