PPCC appoints chairman:
Kuldip Singh Dhaliwal had been appointed chairman of the Intellectual Cell of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), a press release said here on Tuesday. Kuldip Singh from Raja Sansi constituency is associated with the party's campaigns against drug addiction, female foeticide and unemployment.

Lawyers protest:
Members of the District Bar Association on Tuesday protested against the High Court's direction to the subordinate courts to decide all five-year-old cases by March 31. Led by District Bar Association president Narinder Tiwana, lawyers disrupted the proceedings at the district courts. Tiwana said the lower courts' decision to adjourn cases on a day-to-day basis had put lawyers under great stress.

Man held with narcotics:
The police on Tuesday arrested a man with 5-gm narcotic powder from here. Police personnel deployed at a check post near Naloian Chowk intercepted the accused, Mahinderpal Singh, of Adamwal and found narcotics from him. He was booked under Sections 21, 61 and 86 of the IPC.

19-yr-old girl dies
: A 19-year-old girl on Tuesday died when she allegedly fell from a running bus near Ramgarh Sandhuan village in Lehragaga area. Parminder Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of Lehragaga police station, said the girl was a student of BCA final year in Guru Tegh Bahadur College, Lehal Khurd. Ajaib Singh, the father of the deceased, said she fell down from the bus when its door accidentally opened. A case has been registered.

Man killed in mishap: The driver of a tractor-trailer was killed when the vehicle fell into a drain on the Dirba-Sangrur road on Monday. Four more persons were injured. Dirba Station House OfficerJaswant Singh Mangat identified the deceased as Jagat Singh from Hallerri village. The body had been handed over to the relatives.

101 farmers court arrest:
As many as 101 Kisan Sangharsh Committee members courted arrest at the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Tuesday. Kanwalpreet Singh Pannu, committee convener, said they would continue their protest till their demands were accepted, the main being better prices for crops and a crackdown on drug peddlers.



Screening test for medical officer’s post put off:
The screening test for the post of medical officer (general wing), slated for March 6, has been postponed to April 5 due to administrative reasons. The roll numbers and examination centres allotted to the candidates will remain unchanged and candidates may download fresh e-admit cards.
