4 held for looting shop
: The Sriganganagar police have arrested four persons of Punjab on the charge of looting a jewellery shop. The DSP said a jeweller, Gyasudin, had hired the accused Rakesh Soni of Ferozepur, Karan Chadha, Rajpreet Singh Kot Dharma and Jagsir Singh all of Mansa district to rob the shop.

Govt employees protest: State government employees protested at the sub-divisional treasury office here on Friday. They sought that the CM should fulfill their demands, to which he had reportedly agreed to in February.

Rapist gets 7-yr jail: Kala Ram Meghwal of Kikkarkhera village here has been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for rape. The police said he had taken away a 10-year-old girl from a meeting during village panchayat elections in July last year and raped her. A case was registered on the basis of complaint lodged under Section 376 of the IPC by the girl's relative, Jagsir Singh.

PU postpones exams:
The Panjab University (PU) has postponed the examinations scheduled for the evening session on April 16. Prof Parvinder Singh, PU Controller of Examination, said the decision had been taken due to administrative reasons. The new dates would be notified later, he said.

Lok Adalat on April 12:
A mega Lok Adalat will be organised by the District Free Legal Aid Authority in the District Court Complex on April 12. District and Sessions Judge Sanjeev Beri said cases related to 138 NI Act, MACT, bank recovery, matrimony, telecom companies, cooperative societies, revenue, vehicles, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act pre-litigative cases would be heard and settled amicably in the Lok Adalat.

2 die, 1 injured in mishaps:
A car hit a motorcycle at Mukerian on Friday, leaving one dead and another injured. The deceased has been identified as Baljinder Kaur. His husband, Daljit Singh, who was driving the motorcycle, was injured seriously. In another accident, a vehicle hit two pedestrians near Naloyian Chowk. A girl was killed and her mother was injured.

Man gets life term:
District and Sessions Judge GS Bakshi on Friday awarded life imprisonment to a man for strangulating his wife to death. Swaranjit Singh of Lopo village of Moga district had killed his wife Sukhwinder Kaur on the intervening night of August 10 and August 11 in 2012. Bhupinder Singh, the woman's brother, in his police complaint, had stated that on the fateful day, Swaranjit had quarrelled with his sister and strangulated her to death with a piece of cloth.



Two arrested for anti-poll campaign:
The police today claimed to have arrested two persons for campaigning against the ongoing Lok Sabha polls in the Valley. The duo was found pasting anti-poll posters between Sheeri and Heewan in Baramulla district, a senior police officer said. The accused have been identified as Bashir Ahmad Soleh of Kanli Bagh and Ghulam Mohammad Bangi of Ganaie Hamam.
