Police officers record statements of jail warders in Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, June 22
Six undertrials lodged at an observation home in Ludhiana made a daring midnight escape after assaulting two warders on Sunday.

All six juveniles face serious charges, including rape and murder. The two warders, Raj Kumar and Ruldu, have been admitted to a hospital with multiple injuries. The observation home in located in Shimlapuri.

Nirbhay Singh, in charge of the Shimlapuri police post, said the incident took place at 12:45 am. “One of the accused requested warder Ruldu for water. As soon as the warder opened the door to offer water, the accused overpowered him and then attacked the other warder, Raj Kumar,” said the police officer. Raj Kumar told the police that the accused put a wooden dart in Ruldu’s mouth, as a result his two front teeth were broken. Then they gagged Raj Kumar with a piece of cloth. The two warders were then tied up and the accused later scaled the wall of the observation home to escape.

ADCP Crime Malkit Singh Dhesi said a high alert has been sounded in the city and its surrounding areas.

Perfect plan

The accused had made a foolproof plan. They emptied the water tank in the evening resulting in water scarcity at the observation home. Around midnight, one of the accused asked for water from warder Ruldu. When Ruldu opened the door to give water, the accused overpowered him and then attacked the other warder, Raj Kumar. Thereafter, they put a bed against the boundary wall of the observation home and made a human ladder to scale the 18-foot-high structure.
