Body found in tank:A man’s body was found floating in a tank in the old water works located about 100 m from his residence. The deceased was Krishan Chander of Jain Nagar. His family said he had walked out of the house on Wednesday night and did not return.

Truck drivers looted:Some car-borne miscreants looted Rs 40,000 and mobile phones from truck drivers Subhash Chander of Ellenabad and Kalu Singh of Rawatsar after intercepting their vehicle at gunpoint on the Hanumangarh-Rawatsar mega highway on Wednesday night. The car had a registration number of Fazilka, the police said.

Two-day book exhibition:The two-day book exhibition was organised at Mata Gujri College here. Renowned book publishers from various parts of the country displayed a wide variety of books at the exhibition. Director Principal of the college Jatinder Singh Sidhu dwelled on the importance of book reading.

3 drug peddlers held:Three persons have been arrested on the charge of drug peddling. Neel Kamal of Hoshiarpur was arrested with 75 gm narcotic powder at naka at Khun Khun Khurd village. Abdul Gafur was arrested with 100 gm narcotic powder at Meghowal Ganjian village. Satpal Singh of Roop Nagar, Hoshiarpur, was arrested with 4,320 prohibited capsules and injections at the T-point near Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School. Separate cases have been registered.

Phillora Day observed:The Army on Thursday held a function to mark the 49th Phillora Day at the Black Elephant Cenotaph. On this day in 1965, Phillora in Pakistan was captured by troops of the Black Elephant Division and in their memory, the day is commemorated as "Phillora Day".

Woman commits suicide:A married woman, Priyapal Kaur, reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling at her parental house in the Santokhpura locality of Phillaur on Wednesday. Priyapal's father Harbhagwan Singh said her daughter was married to Jaspal Singh of Saranwali village, near Ferozepur, and was being harassed for dowry. The body was handed over to her parents after an autopsy was conducted at the Civil Hospital.

Bikers open fire, one hurt:A youth of Ghanour village sustained bullet injury in his leg when three motorcycle-borne miscreants opened fire at him. The injured Manni was referred to the PGIMR, Chandigarh.

Amendment to notification:The Haryana Government has made an amendment to para 4 for sub-para (iii) of the Haryana Government Urban Local Bodies Department (Committee) notification regarding property tax dated October 11, 2013. As per the amendment, those who have already deposited the tax, the excess amount, if any, would be adjusted against property tax for 2014-15.

Sohna declared municipal council:The Haryana Government has declared municipal committee of Sohna (Gurgaon) municipal council, thus increasing the number of municipal councils in the state to 19.

2 booked on rape charge:An 18-year-old girl has alleged rape by a youth of Bhawna Chowk continuously for 45 days. The victim’s father alleged that Rahul and Hari Om had threatened to eliminate her if she divulged the incident.

Woman hangs self:After facing domestic violence, Sumitra (37), a resident of Devru village, committed suicide on Wednesday. Sumitra’s father Ramesh said his daughter committed suicide at her in-law’s house, as she was physically abused by her husband, Balwan, and his family.
