GURDASPUR
Separate cell:
The District Administration Hospital Welfare Association and officials of the 9 Infantry Division held a function at Panchayat Bhavan here on Sunday to redress the grievances of the martyrs' dependants in the district. Mr S.K Sandhal, Deputy Commissioner, said a separate cell had been created in this connection.

KAPURTHALA
Society formed:
The district administration has sought people's support for preserving the historical buildings here. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr V.K. Singh, on Sunday organised a function at his residence in connection with the celebrations of Independence Day where the formation of Kapurthala Heritage Society was announced.

MOGA
Conductor beaten up:
A conductor working with a private transport company (Dabwali Transport) was beaten up on Sunday by several passengers when the conductor allegedly refused to issue them tickets even after the payment of bus fare. The conductor later apologised and issued them tickets.

PATHANKOT
No-confidence motion:
The no-confidence motion held against the Dinangar Municipal Council chief, Mr Vijay Mahajan, at a meeting of the House has failed following the absence of all councellors belonging to the BJP This was stated by Mr N.S. Sodhi, a Tehsildar, who was present as an observer.

PATIALA
Support pledged:
Mr Charanjit Singh Walia, Vice-President, SAD, have pledged support of the Punjab State Services Federation, PSEB Employees Federation and Punjab Mazdoor Dal in favour of the SAD-BJP candidates in the state for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. This decision was taken at a meeting of the employees' bodies held here on Sunday.

Opium seized:
Twelve kg of opium was seized from Bikramjit Singh of Amritsar by the local Sadar police. A case under Sections 18, 61 and 85, NDPS Act, has been registered.

Garhwal mandal: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Garhwal Ramlila and Sanskritik Mandal: chairman — Mr G.S. Rawat; president — Mr B.S. Rawat; senior vice-president — Mr Jagat Singh Rana; vice-president — Mr Kewal Singh Bangari; general secretary — Mr B.P. Gour; secretary — Mr Vidya Dutt Khankriyal; auditor — Mr Satish Joshi; treasurer — Mr C.S. Makhloga; and Accountant — Mr Narinder Singh Rawat.

Functions: The International Association of Lions Clubs, District 321-F and Chandigarh Regions VIII and IX paid homage to Kargil martyrs by organising functions at many places in the city on Monday.

Saplings planted: As part of the foundation day celebrations, the Uttarakhand Yuva Manch organised two plantation camps at Rikheka village in Uttar Pradesh and Khuda Ali sher on August 8 and 15, respectively. As many as 150 saplings were planted.

Complained: Mr Ram Murti Aggarwal of Sector 21 complained on Monday that a snake was found in the water supply to his house. He added that the water supply line to his house was leaking.

Visited: A troupe of 15 artists of the Asian Fold Theatre, in collaboration with the National Institute of Folk Dances (Chaou Group, West Bengal) recently visited France to attend the 'Festival of France'.

Died: Prof Gurbaksh Singh Gill, Founder-Principal of Central Polytechnic College, Sector 26, died on Monday. He was 83.

Allegations refuted:
Mr R.L. Kataria, BJP candidate from Ambala, addressed meetings of party workers at Raipur Rani and at Pinjore on Monday. He refuted allegations of being an outsider on the basis of his being a resident of Haryana for the past many years and residing in Panchkula.

Charas seized:
Ambala Central Jail authorities have seized 80 gram of charas from Ranjit and Mukesh, two prisoners. A case under NDPS Act has been registered.

FATEHABAD
Club:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Great India Social Club here: President — Mr Ramesh Sethi; Vice-President — Mr Sandeep Amritsaria; Secretary — Mr Ramesh Nagpal; Joint Secretary — Mr Babloo Girdhar; and Treasurer — Mr Rakesh Khurana.

Meeting held: A meeting of the district committee of the Student Federation of India (SFI) was held here on Monday. Ms Alka Mahiya, district President of the SFI presided. The committee decided to stage a dharna in front of the DC office on August 20 in support of the striking students of the local M M College.

Minister's brother held: The CIA has booked Babbar Singh, a brother of former Haryana minister and an HVP legislator, Ram Swaroop Rama, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Act and recovered three bags of poppy husk from his house on Sunday.

Function:
Tributes were paid to Baba Sharan Puriji Maharaj of Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirwani at a function organised in front of Dera Baba Sharwan Nath here on Sunday. Mahant Girdhar Narayan Puri of Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirwani, Kankhal, Hardwar, presided.

ROHTAK
3 booked:
The police in Jhajjar district has registered a case under Sections 302, 328/34 and 120-B, IPC, against three persons, including a woman, for allegedly poisoning a minor girl at Jessore Kheri village. According to police sources, the suspects have been identified as Phool Singh, his wife, Santosh, and another person, Jagbir Singh of Sonepat district.

SHAHABAD
'Siropa' presented:
Mr Ranjit Singh of Kaulapur village in Kurukshetra district, father of jawan Sanjiv Kumar, who sacrificed his life in Kargil, was honoured and given a 'siropa' at a function organised by the local unit of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh.

Evening organised: The local unit of the Bharat Vikas Parishad organised a programme, "Ek Sham Shahidon ke Naam" at Rishi Markendshwar Temple Complex here on Sunday in which teams from a local educational institutions presented a programme and paid tributes to Kargil martyrs.

SIRSA
Suspended:
Mr Sukhvinder Kaur Gill, Chairperson, Municipal Council, here and Mr Bachan Lal Bajaj, former Chairman local Market Committee, have been suspended for six years from the Congress by Mr Krishan Godara, President, District Congress Committee, for anti-party activities.

Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the local Market Committee Class IV Employees Union: President — Mr Bhiwani Dutt Sharma; General-Secretary — Mr Bansi Lal; Joint Secretary — Mr Sant Singh; and treasurer — Mr Radheysham.

SONEPAT
Probe sought:
Residents of Tagga village assembled outside a shop of a private doctor at Ganaur, 16 km from here, on Sunday and protested against the death of a patient due to negligence. The patient was admitted to the hospital but he died in the doctor's absence. The relatives of the patients also called on Mr S.B. Lohia, SDM, and demanded a probe.

Murderers identified: The Mohana police on Monday claimed to have solved the murder of Har Dayal of Delhi following the identification of culprits involved in it. During investigations, police officials came to know that Har Dayal was an active member of a criminal gang headed by Tejpal Gujjar and the alleged culprits belonged to it.

Erratic power supply: Resentment prevails among the residents of Ram Bazar and Kot Mohalla areas against low voltage and erratic power supply. The Residents Welfare Association on Monday warned that if necessary steps were not taken they would gherao officials of the HVPN.

Arrested: The police here has arrested four women on the charge of theft and seized 12 sarees allegedly stolen by them from a cloth shop in Ashok Nagar. The SSP said the arrests were made following an FIR lodged with the police by Mr Ramesh Kumar, a cloth merchant in Ashok Nagar area.

Thefts: Two cases of thefts were reported from different parts of Gohana, a subdivisional town in the district, on Sunday. According to a report reaching here, 100 tins of "desi ghee" and 50 tins of pickles worth several lakhs of rupees were stolen from a shop in the anaj mandi. In another case, silver ornaments from the shop of a goldsmith were stolen.top

SOLAN
Protest march:
The CITU and the Kisan Sabha took out a march and held a rally here on Sunday in protest against the rising prices and the non-enforcement of labour laws. They urged the government to introduce crop insurance schemes and demanded action against those traders who supplied substandard seeds and insecticides to farmers.
