Jacob freezes UT boundaries

Dec 8 — The Administrator of Chandigarh, Lieut-Gen
J.F.R. Jacob (retd), has frozen the administrative
boundaries of the district, town, tehsil and villages etc
of the Union Territory with effect from January 1, 2000,
under the Census Rules, 1990, under the Census Act, 1948.

Breaches plugged amid protests

Dec 8 — The engineering wing of the Punjab Urban
Planning and Development Authority today plugged a number
of unauthorised thoroughfares made by slum dwellers by
breaching the wall constructed by PUDA to separate Phase
