Power generation: The Haryana Government
has spent Rs 5,000 crore during the past three
years on increasing power generation and other
power development activities in the state. This
was stated by Mr Surender Singh a former MP,
after laying the foundation stone of a 132 KV sub
station at Loharu on Friday. The sub-station will
be constructed by the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran
Nigam (HVPN) at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore.Bus stand:
Mr Sombir Singh, MLA, from Loharu, laid the
foundation stone of a bus-stand at Behal village.
He said the new bus-stand would be provided with
every facility. The government, he added, was
committed to providing every town and city in the
state with bus-stands having all facilities for
the commuters.
Race:
The District Sports and Youth Welfare Department,
in association with the Health Department, will
organise a race on the occasion of the World
Population Day on July 11. Minister of State for
Health Bijender Kadyan will flag off the race.
The participants will carry banners about the
effects of growing population.

Installed: A new team of the local
Rotary Club, under the presidentship of Mr Mahesh
Goel, was installed at a function here on
Wednesday by the District Governor of the club,
Mr Arun Sharma. He also installed Ms Geeta Goel
and Mr Manoj Makkar as presidents of the Inner
Wheel Club and the Rotract Club, respectively.

Sentenced: Mr A.K. Vimal, the local
Additional District and Sessions Judge, sentenced
Ram Karan Bania to 10 years' imprisonment and
imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh under the NDPS Act on
Thursday. According to the prosecution, the
accused was arrested by the Nathusari Chopta
police near Chopta village in the district on
December 18, 1992. During search, 5 kg of opium
was recovered from his possession.
Criminal
case: A criminal case under Sections
420, 468 and 471 of the IPC on the charge of
cheating was registered against Ladhu Ram, Om
Parkash and Prem Chand, sons of Mr Ram Rakh of
Chakkan village in the district, at the city
police station here on Thursday. The case was
lodged on the complaint of Mr Ishwar Dutt,
Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class), in which it had
been alleged that to misguide the court, all the
three accused filed false affidavits in a case.
All the alleged accused were reportedly
absconding.
Stolen:
A domestic servant is reported to be missing with
jewellery worth Rs 50,000 from the house of a
cloth merchant in the local Suratgarhia bazar.
According to sources, the family of the cloth
merchant had engaged a woman from Bihar some time
back as a maid. She confessed to having stolen
things from the home. The matter was reported to
the police.
SONEPAT
Procession: A large number of students
of local DAV Multipurpose School took out a
procession on Friday in protest against the
intrusion by the Pakistan-backed infiltrators in
the Kargil, Dras and the Batalik sectors of Jammu
and Kashmir. Carrying an effigy of the Pakistan
Prime Minister, Mr Nawaz Sharif, and raising
anti-Pakistan slogans, they passed through the
main bazars of the city and burnt Mr Sharif's
effigy.
Arrested:
With the arrest of one person, the Kharkhauda
police on Thursday claimed to have solved a
looting incident which occurred on October 12
last year near Sisana village on the
Sonepat-Rohtak road. The Senior Superintendent of
Police, Mr K. Selvraj, told reporters here on
Friday that the arrested person had been
identified as Suresh of Dulehra village in
Jhajjar district of Haryana. The police, he said,
also arrested another person Rajinder, alias
Boni, a resident of the Dharampura area of
Nazafgarh (Delhi) on the charge of purchasing a
stolen Tata Sumo for Rs 30,000.

Pooja: Shri Gita Ramayan Prachar Samiti
here is holding its three-day annual Vyas Pooja
Mahotsava commencing from July 16 on the premises
of Shri Radha Krishan Mandir, Nandwani Nagar, in
the city. Swami Divyanand Bhikhshu, a well-known
saint of Hardwar, will perform the pooja.
Assault:
Shops in the Ram Bazar area here
remained closed on Thursday evening and Friday in
protest against the alleged beating up of a
goldsmith and assault on some other shopkeepers
by some youths, said to be eve-teasers.
