anniversary of The Mother who spread the message of Sri Aurobindo the
Chandigarh Administration has constituted a core committee for promoting
academic activities in universities and colleges in Chandigarh and the
region.

Come October and it’s goodbye to
studies and teaching in city colleges where academics take the backseat
and festive spirit rules the day. Most hostel residents choose to stay
away from college while day scholars too are in no mood for serious
study, with celebration fever catching up with them and taking a toll on
the studies.

Music, dance and drills dominated
the “Rhyme, Race and Rhythm 2002” show presented by the kindergarten
section of St Kabir Public School, Sector 26, here today. Dressed in
vibrant colours, the children danced to peppy music and staged
impressive drills. However, the races for the little ones generated a
lot of enthusiasm and won tremendous applause from the parents.

ASSASSINATION CASE
Witness
turns hostile
Chandigarh, October 16
The prosecution in the Beant Singh
assassination case today received a major setback as one of the
important witnesses in the case turned hostile. According to the CBI,
the witness, Charanjit Singh, a resident of Ghaziabad, had identified
the main accused and the other accused in the case while recording his
statement before the agency.

upholds decision to penalise LIC

Finding deficiency in the services
of Life Insurance Corporation Mutual Fund and others the UT Consumer
Commission has upheld the order passed by the UT Consumer Forum-II
directing the company to issue duplicate premature enhancement warrants
for Rs 50, 000 to the complainant, Mr Kanwal Jit Singh Narwal, a
resident of Sector 43 and others and also to pay interest at the rate 12
per cent on the amount from March 6, 1998 till payment.
