Mining mafia rules as admn sleeps

Despite a ban on removing sand from river beds, the illegal mining of sand on the banks of the Satluj near Sidhwan Bet has been going on a large scale. Call it failure of authorities or political patronage enjoyed by the illegal sand miners; it has increased manifolds during the recent past.

Man booked for killing two migrant women

A cop comes out of the room in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar on the Pakhowal road in Ludhiana. Day after the double murder that rocked the city, the police today booked Arun (27) for killing his sister-in-law Usha and her daughter- in-law Punam in a fit of rage following an argument at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. The case was registered following a complaint lodged by Ram Lakhan, elder brother of Arun.
