Based upon a tip-off to the police, the accused were apprehended from New Chandrawal on Sunday.

The police has seized 537 fake birth certificates, seven fake rubber stamps of sub-registrar and registrar of different zones and a computer from their possession.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime and railways) Sanjay Kumar Jain said that the accused charged Rs 1,000 for providing a fake birth certificate and were active since 2009. They both are native of Odisha.

"Ajeet is an employee at a printing press in New Chandrawal. He became acquainted with Jagbandhu in 2009 and conceived of the fraud finding it lucrative. Jagbandhu was continuously in touch with prospective clients through the MCD office," said Jain.

After Jaghbandhu learnt that Ajeet is good with computers, he gave him Rs 9,000 to buy one.

They both then started forging birth certificates on the forms, which Jaghbandhu procured from his office.

In 2010, when the stock with Jagbandhu was finished, Ajeet printed some forms at his printing press and they continued preparing forged birth certificates and supplying them to various clients.

The police is investigating the role of the clients, who got the fake birth certificates prepared and later used it for various purposes.

New Delhi, May 30
Six women from Uzbekistan have been arrested for allegedly running a prostitution racket from Chhattarpur Extension and Vasant Vihar. The women were apprehended from a farmhouse at Chattarpur Extension, yesterday.

Deputy commissioner of police (crime and railways) Sanjay Kumar Jain said one of the arrested women, Gulnaaz (33), is a pimp and had been staying in the country since 2009. She had been running the racket for the past three years and extending her visa on various grounds, including medical reasons.

Jain added that Gulnaaz arranged for the transport and accommodation of women from Uzbekistan, who stayed on tourist visas valid for three to six months. The arrested women are in the age group of 27-33. After the expiry of their visas, the girls returned to their countries and meet Gulnaaz in Delhi again after some time.

"Gulnaaz had even got a girl married to an Indian national to enable other women from Uzbekistan come to the country on visas issued on marital grounds. According to her, in the national capital region, there is a great demand for women from Eastern Europe," said Sanjay Jain.

The special investigation team (SIT) of the crime branch was tipped off about the racket. The police approached the girls through a decoy customer and then later arrested them. A case under the Indian Penal Code and the Foreigner's Act was registered against them.

Jain said that Gulnaaz had taken the Chhattarpur Extension house on a monthly rent of Rs 14,000. Some girls stayed with her at the house while others lived in Vasant Vihar.

"Gulnaaz would arrange meetings between the clients and her girls. She fixed the price of the girls according to the perceived paying capacity of the clients, charging between Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000 for a girl per night. The charge went up to Rs 1 lakh for other services offered by the girls like belly dancing, accompanying clients for weekend parties and traveling with them to destinations like Shimla, Jaipur and Goa. The customers were entertained only if they came through a trusted client," added Sanjay Jain.

The Uzbekistan Embassy at Chanakyapuri has been intimated about the arrest.

Brace for road blockades today
BJP ‘bandh’ against petrol, CNG price hikes

New Delhi, May 30
The BJP has decided to block roads at 100 places tomorrow in Delhi to make the Bharat bandh call successful. The bandh call has been given to pressurise the Union government to rollback the hiked prices of petrol and CNG. Today senior leaders held meetings with party workers in each district.

The party has appealed to market association, bus, truck, taxi, auto, cycle-rickshaw unions and others to support the bandh call as this is for the benefit of all the people. The bandh call has been given on national level.

The Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Vijay Kumar Malhotra said that they would come on streets in the morning .

Addressing office-bearers of more than 250 traders' organisation, president of the Delhi unit of the BJP Vijender Gupta said that this time Delhi bandh would be historical and unprecedented because it would be observed spontaneously by the common man. The common man is fed up with the continuous price hike of petrol, diesel, CNG.

The people are reeling in price rises, but the government is taking anti-people decisions, one after another. From the tea stalls to the bullion market all the shops will remain closed, he said.

Gupta, along with his colleagues, visited all blocks of Connaught Place, Palika Bazar, Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar and other prominent markets. He staged 'padyatra' and appealed to the traders that they should make the bandh historical by organising demonstration, traffic jam, effigy burning and rallies.

Before this, the highest demand of power was registered on Friday, which was 5,032 MW, with the maximum temperature recorded at 44°C. Officials at the power department said that even as the demand soured exceptionally, it was fully met.

"The power consumption pattern of Delhi is quite different from other states. Normally, there is a difference of around 20 per cent between the maximum and minimum demand daily. But due to the soaring heat the difference between the maximum and minimum demand has been witnessed more than 50 per cent," he said.

Gases fom Yamuna harming nearby residents: Malhotra
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, May 30
Ammonia, hydrogen sulfide and other poisonous gases emanating from the Yamuna are causing breathing problems to people living in the colonies adjacent to the bank of the river, said the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Vijay Kumar Malhotra.

Speaking on the issue in the Assembly, Malhotra said if these gases could damage the air conditioners of metro coaches running on the Yamuna corridor and parked in the yard located at the river bank, it could be imagined how dangerous they were for human beings.

Recently the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in a report said it had to get the air conditioners of 450 trains running on the Yamuna corridor changed, according to Malhotra. The DMRC has said that it is planning to shift its yard from the Yamuna bank, according to Malhotra.

Addressing a conference after the House meeting, Malhotra said the central pollution control board in its report had said that Yamuna was a dead river. The Supreme Court has also criticised the government for not cleaning the river.

Despite of all this, the government has mentioned only two lines about the river in its 47-page Budget copy.

"If Greece can clean the Athens, why can't we clean the Yamuna? Thousands of crores of rupees have so far been spent on the cleaning of the river, but to no effect," he said.
