Morcha activists stage dharna: Sanjha Morcha activists on Tuesday staged a demonstration here to lodge a protest against the Punjab Government for its alleged failure in reining in the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. They carried out a march from Udham Singh Park to Labour Chowk and later staged a rally. The protesters' leaders alleged that several robbery and theft incidents had occured in the state recently and the criminals were roaming scot-free.
Man blames in-laws for daughter's death: A woman died under mysterious circumstances at Shahkot on Monday. In his complaint to the police, victim's father Sarwan Kumar alleged that he suspected foul play by her in-laws in his daughter's death.
Schoolteacher run over by train: A schoolteacher, Sandeep Kaur of Dhandhey village, was run over by a train near Goraya railway station on Monday. The deceased was crossing the railway lines while talking on a mobile phone and probably failed to notice the approaching train. The Government Railway Police has registered a case.
Sheller chowkidar commits suicide: Mohinder Singh (72) of Kanoi village allegedly committed suicide on Monday by hanging himself from the ceiling in a
rice-sheller on the Sangrur-Sunam road here. The deceased was working as a chowkidar of the
rice-sheller. On the complaint of the deceased's daughter-in-law Malkit
Kaur, the police has registered a case under Section 306 of the IPC against Balbir Singh and Pankaj Kumar. She alleged that both had been harassing her father-in-law for the past some time.
