SAD leader among 2 shot
in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, December 20
Two persons, including a SAD
leader, were shot dead by unidentified assailants today at Khosa Dal
Singh village on the Ferozepur-Zira road, around 10 km from the district
headquarters. Another person was seriously injured in the shooting.

Sikh detainee released from
jail
Patiala, December 20
The Punjab Government today
released Lal Singh from the Nabha jail against his pending parole this
evening. He was among the six detainees lodged in prisons for whom Sikh
activist Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa had been on fast-unto-death since
November 14 seeking their release. The time period of his parole could
not be ascertained.

Centre moves SC against
gay sex order
New Delhi, December 20
The Centre today filed a review
petition in the Supreme Court seeking a reversal of the December 11 SC
verdict re-criminalising homosexual acts even among consenting adults in
privacy.
2 Army men killed in
Sudan
New Delhi, December 20
Two Indian Army soldiers have been
killed and another one has been injured after an attack by armed militia
on a UN Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS) camp late last
night. The Indian soldiers were on UN duty.

Come Jan 1, soiled
currency notes to fade away
New Delhi, December 20
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has
asked banks to stop circulating soiled currency notes after collecting
those from customers — effective January 1 — under its clean note
policy. This is part of the RBI’s policy to make good quality bank
notes available to the public. According to a circular dated August 14
to heads of all banks, the RBI had emphasised on the clean note policy.
