Medical practitioner tortured:
The Sriganganagar police on Tuesday arrested a medical practitioner's wife, daughter and son for torturing him. When the police reached GR Verma's house, he was tied to a bed and was being beaten up by his wife Shanti Devi, daughter Meenakshi and son Sandeep Kumar, witnesses said. The accused were released on bail later.

Transformer thieves held:
The district police have arrested four members of a gang involved in the theft of transformers. The police have recovered a 315-bore rifle, three live cartridges, ammunition, iron rods, “kirch” and other weapons. Those arrested are Bir Pal Singh of Naulakha village, Pargat Singh of Roorkee, Shalinder Singh of Naulakha and Joginder Ram of Mandi Gobindgarh. The fifth accused, Kuldeep Singh of Phagan Majra, is still at large. Gurmeet Singh Chauhan, SSP, said during the interrogation, they confessed to have  stolen 20 transformers in  the district.

Fire in Jalalabad bank :
Fire broke out in the State Bank of Patiala's Jalalabad branch on the intervening night of March 16 and 17. The furniture, false ceiling and other equipment was gutted. It is believed that the inferno resulted from a short circuit. Branch manager Sudarshan Goyal claimed that there was no loss of currency.

6 undertrials booked:
As many as six undertrials at a Juvenile home have been booked on the charge of attempt to murder. Inmate Sanam Mahajan of Pathankot complained to the police that six inmates attacked him on Monday. The accused have been identified as Amarvir, Shivam, Ravi, Gagan, Balwinder Singh and Satnam Singh. 

BJP nominee faces dissent:
The supporters of CPS Som Parkash on Monday protested against the BJP's decision to field Vijay Sampla from the Hoshiarpur seat. Parkash said he stood by the party's decision.

Two killed in accident:
Two persons, Harpreet Singh and Darbara Singh, residents of Dhura village (near Dhuri), were killed in a road accident on the Sangrur-Malerkotla road near Bhasaur village (near Malerkotla) last night. The duo were going towards Dhuri when their tempo and a truck, going towards Ludhiana, collided near the KRBL factory (near Bhasaur). The driver of the truck, Dilbag Singh, has been arrested. A case has been registered against him under Section 304-A of the IPC.



One booked for rape
: The police have booked Sat Prakash on the charge of raping the 14-year-old daughter of his landlord on Monday. The police said the accused was still at large and would arrest him soon.

One held on rape charge
: The police arrested Ram Singh of Bahari Mohalla, for rape. The victim said the accused raped and threatened her. The accused was produced in court, which sent him to judicial custody.



Two hurt in road accident
: Two persons were injured when a pick-up vehicle hit a hillside near Rajera here yesterday, a report said today. The report said a case of rash and negligent driving against the driver of the vehicle, Tilak Raj, had been registered at the Chamba police station. Further investigation in the case was on, the report added.

Man held with 1 kg charas: The police seized 1 kg charas from a pedestrian, Rishikesh, and arrested him on Sunday evening. Giving this information here today, Chamba SP DK Chaudhary said a police party, on being suspicious, intercepted the pedestrian near Rodi in the suburbs of the town. Police officials checked his baggage and found the charas in it. A case under Section 20 of the NDPS Act had been registered at the Chamba police station.

Youth dies in road mishap
: A youth was killed when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a car on the Una-Nangal road at Behdala village here today. The deceased had been identified as Sandeep Kumar of Badehar village. Two other pillion riders, Saurabh and Arun Kumar of Badehar village, were injured in the accident and admitted to the Una hospital.
