BATHINDA
Inspector booked:
The district police has booked a Sub-Inspector, Baljinder Kumar, investigating officer at CIA staff police station, under the Prevention of Corruption Act for setting free a drug dealer after accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

FATEHGARH SAHIB
Shahidi Samagam:
The local unit of the Bharat Vikas Parishad organised the Shahidi Samagam of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur ji. Mr Nirmal Singh Kahlon, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat, Punjab, was the chief guest. He donated Rs 31,000 from his discretionary fund for the parishad.

GARHSHANKAR
Murdered:
Hari Har Anand, a sadhu, was found murdered in Dadial village. The sadhu was a practising Hakim. Two servants who were living with him are absconding. The police has registered a case under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC.

JALANDHAR
Arrested:
The local police has arrested two persons accused in connection with the Patel Chowk group clash in which serious injuries were inflicted upon Surjit Singh and his son Gurnam Singh both residents of Harnamdaspura. Gurnam Singh succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. Residents of Harnamdaspura held a dharna on the Jalandhar-Kapurthala road and demanded the arrest of Gurbaksh Singh Gorkha. Mr Gaurav Yadav, SSP, said here on Sunday that Harjit Singh, a resident of Sangat Singh Nagar and Santokh Singh, a resident of Harnamdaspura had been arrested.

LUDHIANA
Ambulance donated:
Punjab National Bank on Sunday donated an ambulance van to the district Red Cross Society, under the highway ambulances scheme. Mr S.K. Chawla, General Manager, Punjab National Bank, handed over the keys of the van to the Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, at a function organised at Rishi Nagar. The function was jointly organised by the District Red Cross Society and the Bharat Vikas Parishad.

MOGA
Traffic congestion:
Traffic congestion at almost all leading roads here is very common phenomenon and neither the district administration nor the Moga municipal committee has bothered to think about it. According to reports it was not possible for the travellers to pass through the roads as these were encroached by the shopkeepers, bicycles, scooters as there was no proper parking space.

NAWANSHAHR
Ration depots:
The local District Food and Supplies Department on Monday inspected 239 ration depots in the district. This was stated in a press note issued here.

PHAGWARA
Scheme launched:
The Sikhiya karmi scheme will be launched in the state from March, 2000. This was stated here on Sunday by the Punjab Education Minister, Mr Swaran Ram. Panchayats would be empowered to appoint educated unemployed youths in the primary schools to overcome the staff shortage, he added

Pension: All defence pensioners who get their pension in cash from DRDO, Chandigarh, will get their pension on December 24.

Professor dead: Dr Subhash C. Kaushal, Professor of Botany, Panjab University, passed away in an accident near Theog in Shimla district. He was 54.

Medical camp: The State Bank of India, Industrial Area branch, organised a health check-up camp for children up to five years of age at the Ordnance Cable Factory dispensary in Sector 29 here on Sunday. About 180 children were examined at the camp. The bank will organise a similar camp on January 23, 2000.

SAS NAGAR
Checkup camp:
The Ranbaxy Community Healthcare Society (RCHS) organised a health check up at Sahauran village near Kharar. As many as 71 children were examined at the camp by Dr Upma Sharma, Medical Officer of the RCHS. A healthy baby show was also organised on the occasion.

Appointed: Two local Congress leaders, Mr Harvinder Singh Sidhu and Mr G.P.Singh, have been appointed as Vice-President and General Secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Youth Congress, respectively.top

AMBALA
Seminar:
A seminar was organised by Shri Atmanand Jain Institute of Management and Technology (AIMT), Ambala City, at the newly built campus of the institute on Sunday. The topic of the discussion was "Corporate Restructuring (Mergers and Acquisitions) in Financial Service Sector Industry in India and its Impact." Mr U.K. Chaudhary, Attorney and Advocate, the Supreme Court and the High Courts, New Delhi, spoke on the occasion. He said before embarking upon an exercise to merge companies, the real objective must be very clearly known to the people concerned.

Clash: The dispute between the management and striking employees of Naraingarh Sugar Mill turned violent here on Sunday. According to the police, 10 farmers were injured and six tractors loaded with sugarcane damaged. A case has been registered against 22 agitating employees of the mill and seven union leaders have been arrested.

BHIWANI
Lok Adalat:
Mr Pritam Pal, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, presided over the 65th Lok Adalat organised on the premises of the Judicial Complex here on Saturday. Nearly 705 cases were solved on the occasion. A sum of Rs 6,6,58,250 was awarded to various claimants as compensation for accidents.

KURUKSHETRA
Teachers' protest:
The ad hoc and contract government teachers demonstrated in front of the residences of some of the INLD-BJP leaders here on Sunday. They raised anti-government slogans in protest against their anticipated termination from the services. The procession was taken out under the banner of the district Kurukshetra Unit of Ad hoc Teachers Association.

PANIPAT
Voters' list:
As per the directions of the state Election Commission, the voter lists of the local Municipal Council, and the Municipal Committee prepared on the basis of voter lists taking January 1, 2000, as qualifying date have been kept for public inspection. The publication of these voter lists will be done on December 22 by the election office. According to the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Mr Sandeep Garg, after primary publication the claims for inclusion of name and objections over the entries in the voter list will be entertained between December 22 to January 3 by the revision officers — SDM (Panipat), tehsildar (Samalkha) and municipal secretaries concerned.

SIRSA
Road accident:
Sheeshpal Kaur was killed in a road accident when their jeep collided with a tractor-trailer while they were going for the delivery of Ms Birpaul Kaur of Rampura Bishnoian village on Sunday. Three other persons also received injuries and were admitted to the Civil Hospital at Mandi Dabwali.

Teachers' demand: Ad hoc teachers of the district under banner of the Contract Basis Teachers' Association took out a procession and organised a meeting at Hathi Park here on Sunday. The President of the Ad Hoc Teachers Association, Mr Jagdish Chander, said the ad hoc teachers were appointed by the state government about five years ago but their services had not been regularised as yet. About 13,000 teachers post were lying vacant, he added.

SONEPAT
Distributed:
Mr Sudesh Sharma, Director, Shivam Construction, gave away woollen garments to 120 students from 27 educational institutions of urban and rural areas at a function organised by the Sarvjatiya Vikas Manch here on Saturday. Mr Rajiv Jain, chief patron and Mr Surinder Sharma, president of the manch were present on the occasion.

Prabhat pheri: The Shaheed Yadgaar Sangthan organised a prabhat pheri in memory of Ashfaq Ulla Khan, Ram Prasad Bismal, Rajinder Lahiri and Thakur Roshan Singh, here on Sunday. Large number of freedom fighter took part in it. Later, a public meeting was organised and the speakers recalled the sacrifices of these revolutionaries who were hanged in different jails by the British.

Robbery bid foiled: A motorcyclist foiled an attempt by two armed youth to snatch a motor cycle on a pistol point on the Ganaur-Garhi Jhinjhara road near the power sub-station, about 20 km from here on Monday. According to the report the Ganaur police has arrested Vinod Kumar of Ahulana village in this connection but his accomplice, however, managed to escape. A case has been registered in this connection.

Disbursed: The local municipal council on Monday distributed the two-month salary to the safai workers who were agitating for last 10 days in support of their demands.

Ban imposed: The Haryana Government has imposed a ban on the publication of a monthly magazine 'Yuva Netritiva Jyoti' with immediate effect. No reason has, however, been given in this regard.

Distributed: Mrs Nirmal Chaudhary, a Congress leader distributed 1,200 blankets and shawls amongst the poor at a function held at Moi Majra village, about 20 km from here on Sunday.

One person was killed and three were injured when a jeep carrying them fell into a gorge near Matiyana here on Sunday. The injured persons were admitted to a hospital at Theog.
