Spelling fresh trouble for
former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore, a sessions court here today
denied him anticipatory bail in connection with the two fresh
FIRs (levelling serious criminal charges) registered against him
in the Ruchika molestation case. The applications of Sewa Singh,
one of the co-accused, were also dismissed.

contribution’ made by the Indian diaspora in changing
India’s image abroad, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today
announced that his government was taking steps to see that
overseas Indians were able to cast ballots in the next Lok Sabha
elections to be held in 2014.

Former encounter specialist
of Mumbai police Pradeep Sharma was today remanded in police
custody till January 14 along with five others, including two
constables, in a “fake” encounter case.
Fog
throws air, road traffic out of gear New Delhi, January 8
Fog engulfed North India today
affecting air, train and road traffic severely, as visibility fell as
low as 50 meters in Delhi which experienced the lowest maximum
temperature in the last five years. All the cities in the region
recorded low temperatures with Amritsar recording the lowest temperature
at -0.2 degree Celsius.

LeT militants shot dead Srinagar, January 8
Security forces killed two
Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants involved in shootouts and an IED blast
in Srinagar in an encounter in the Khrew area of Awantipora district
today.
Hockey
players revolt, boycott training camp Chandigarh, January 8
Apparent provocation for national
hockey probables - core group for the 2010 World Cup Hockey Tournament -
to stay away from the training till their demands are met may only be a
cover-up for severe infighting among those assigned the task of building
up a world champion team. Players boycotted the training at the Pune
coaching camp today to demand acceptance of their financial demands.
