6 police officers transferred: The state government on Friday transferred one IPS and five PPS officers. S Bhoopathi, SSP, Khanna, has been transferred as Commandant, Ist IRB. Surjit Singh Grewal, SSP, Moga, has been transferred as SSP, Fazilka. Kamaljit Singh Dhillon has been transferred as SSP, Moga. Surinderjit Singh Mand, AIG, Crime, has been transferred as SSP, Batala. Sushil Kumar has been transferred as SSP, Khanna; Manminder Singh as SSP, Ferozepur; and Varinderpal Singh as Commandant, 2nd Commando Battalion, Bahadurgarh, Patiala. Kapurthala BJP unit dissolved: BJP state chief Kamal Sharma on Friday dissolved the district unit of Kapurthala. State vice-president of the SC Morcha, Chandra Kaul, had also been relieved off the charge, a release said. Party's general secretary Tarun Chugh said the state president had taken strict notice of internal matters of the party finding their way into the media wherein leaders were involved in mudslinging. Boy found dead: A boy, identified as Mukhtiar Ali of
Brahmanmajra, Sirhind, was found dead on Thursday night. The family members of the deceased claimed that Mukhtiar had been murdered. They said he was last seen with some boys and demanded a probe into the case. Sangrur
Two petrol pump owners booked: The Bhawanigarh police has registered a case against the owners of two petrol stations located at Malerkotla and Dirba for allegedly supplying subsidised diesel to factories. The police said two oil tankers had been impounded from Channo village, where these had been taken to supply the subsidised diesel to a factory. No arrest had been made so far as the inquiry into the matter was underway, the police said. College students observe strike: On a call given by the Punjab Students Union (PSU), students of Government Ranbir College on Friday went on a strike. The PSU alleged that the colleges had been denying full fee concession under the post-matric scholarship scheme of the government to Scheduled Caste (SC) students. Union's district committee member Ranbir Singh Kurar said they also demanded full fee concession for college girl students. The union said cases under the SC/ST Act should be registered against the college authorities for denying the concession to the community students.
